Holding on to hurt, anger, or resentment can weigh on us in ways we may not even realize. Forgiveness doesn't mean forgetting what happened or excusing hurtful behavior, but it does mean freeing ourselves from past burdens and making room for peace, healing, and greater well-being.

Today is Indigenous Peoples Day, a holiday observed every October that celebrates Native people and cultures. Here in Alaska, we’re so fortunate to be surrounded by such rich cultures, traditions, stories, and histories that continue to shape our communities. And we’re grateful for the Alaska Native people and families who are part of Hope and the many ways they make our communities stronger.

Today is World Mental Health Day.

Mental health is an essential part of everyone's well-being. Every person deserves to feel seen, heard, valued, and supported, with access to compassionate, inclusive mental health care that respects their needs and experiences.

Let's continue breaking down barriers, challenging stigma, and reminding one another that it's okay to ask for help.

We'd like you to meet Ashley Morgan, one of Hope’s Resident Managers!

Ashley celebrated five years with Hope this May, and she has spent most of that time as a Resident Manager, building meaningful relationships with the people she supports, their families, and her coworkers.

When asked what she enjoys most about the work she does, Ashley said, "What I enjoy most is watching the delight and joy on the persons I work with face when they try something new, help others, volunteer and just overall enjoy life. What keeps me at Hope is the wonderful coworkers I've become friends with, the amount of support I've received and the amazing recipients and family I get the privilege to work with. I've learned so much and gotten to experience so many things while working here."

Outside of work, Ashley enjoys going for drives, reading, building LEGOs, fishing, and spending time with family.

Ashley’s supervisor shared, “You do an amazing job and always go above and beyond. I know the family appreciates everything you do, as we do. You are an invaluable member of our team and hope you are with us another 5+ years. We cannot thank you enough Ashley.”

We couldn’t agree more! Thank you Ashley, for all the ways you help people live full, meaningful lives!

Travis is a leader whose journey with our organization embodies everything we stand for—growth, purpose, and community! From walking through our doors as a student intern, to serving with dedication as a staff member, and now stepping forward as our Board President, Travis' story is a testament to what happens when passion meets mission.

Travis currently serves as the Assistant Dean for the Division of Population Health Sciences at UAA. His lived experience, commitment to service, and a steadfast belief in the power of our community will no doubt guide his leadership and benefit Hope in the years to come.
