Have you ever wondered why your pain or stiffness keeps coming back after your chiropractic, massage, or even physical therapy appointment? It felt sooooooo good and then, back to where you were?

Manipulative treatment can be incredibly effective — especially in the short term.

But here’s what many people don’t realize 👇

Any passive treatment we perform — whether it’s manipulation, mobilization, myofascial release (MFR), or soft tissue work — will typically only provide temporary relief unless it’s combined with exercise.

If we passively release a tight muscle without retraining the brain and nervous system, that muscle will often return to its previous pattern:
⏳ At best: 2–4 hours of relief
⏳ At worst: 5–40 minutes

Why? Because pain and muscle tension are often driven by motor patterns stored in the brain.

That’s why exercise is such a critical part of what we do at Vidrine Integrative Physical Therapy.

When we pair hands-on treatment with targeted corrective exercise:
✔️ We retrain proper movement patterns
✔️ We reinforce stability and control
✔️ We create longer-lasting change
✔️ We address the root cause — not just the symptoms

Manual therapy opens the window.
Exercise makes the results stick.

Make your appointment with me to see what we can do to extend the benefits from your massage, chiropractic, or other body work.

Did you know that jaw tension and TMJ issues are closely tied to neck pain and headaches?

Because the muscles of your jaw, neck, and upper back work together, clenching or grinding can create strain that radiates down into your neck and shoulders.

At Vidrine Integrative Physical Therapy, we look beyond just the symptoms to find the root cause of your pain using hands-on techniques, craniosacral, myofascial release, corrective exercise, ergonomics, and dry needling.

I see you’re still living in chronic pain… 👀

But that doesn’t have to be your normal.

If you’ve been told to “just live with it,” take another medication, or keep doing the same exercises that aren’t working, it may be time to look at your pain differently.

At Vidrine Integrative Physical Therapy, we don’t just treat the spot that hurts. We look at the whole body to figure out why your pain is there and what may be keeping it around.

✨ We look at:
• Muscle tension & weakness
• Fascial restrictions
• Joint mobility
• Movement patterns
• Breathing & nervous system regulation
• Old injuries and compensations
• How different areas of your body may be connected

Your pain may be coming from somewhere other than where you feel it.

With personalized 1:1 care, manual therapy, myofascial release, dry needling, corrective exercise, and other hands-on techniques, our goal is to help you move better, feel better, and get back to living your life.

You don’t have to accept chronic pain as your new normal.

👅 Your Tongue Might Be Affecting Your Neck!

Did you know your tongue, jaw, hyoid bone, and neck muscles all work together?

Tongue position can influence the muscles around the jaw and hyoid, which can affect muscle activity throughout the front and back of the neck.

When we see neck tension, headaches, TMJ symptoms, jaw clenching, or forward-head posture, it can be helpful to look beyond the neck itself.

What can contribute to the problem?

➡️ Low or poorly coordinated tongue resting position
➡️ Tongue thrusting during swallowing
➡️ Jaw clenching or grinding
➡️ Mouth breathing
➡️ Forward-head posture
➡️ Excessive tension in the suprahyoid and infrahyoid muscles

👐 What can PT treatment include?

Depending on the individual, treatment may include:

• Myofascial release to the jaw, neck, and surrounding tissues
• Craniosacral therapy to address tension patterns
• TMJ assessment and treatment
• Gentle work to the suprahyoid/infrahyoid and cervical muscles
• Breathing and diaphragmatic retraining
• Postural and deep neck flexor exercises
• Tongue and jaw coordination exercises
• Education on relaxed resting jaw and tongue position
• Addressing contributing factors such as clenching and poor cervical mechanics

The goal isn’t simply to “put your tongue in the right place.” It’s about improving coordination between the tongue, jaw, breathing system, hyoid, and cervical spine.

If you’ve been treating your neck pain or headaches without lasting results, it may be time to look at the whole system—not just the painful area.

💜 Move Better. Feel Better. Live Better.

SHOULDER, ELBOW, and WRIST pain may be coming from your spine.

As a physical therapist, I often see patients who come in with shoulder, elbow, or wrist pain without realizing that their mid-back (thoracic spine) can influence how the shoulder and entire upper extremity move and function.

When the thoracic spine becomes stiff or restricted, your body may compensate by asking the neck, shoulder, and arm to work harder. Over time, this can contribute to:

🔹 Mid-back tightness or aching
🔹 Shoulder pain or limited mobility
🔹 Neck tension
🔹 Elbow or wrist symptoms
🔹 Poor posture and difficulty reaching overhead

Research has even shown that when patients with upper-extremity pain also have spinal dysfunction, addressing the spine with manual therapy and mobilization can improve shoulder, elbow, wrist pain and disability.

One example of an effective exercise to improve mid back mobility is the open book. Simply lay on your side with your knees stacked and rotate your neck and arm away. This shouldn’t be forceful.

👉 The important takeaway: Where you FEEL the pain isn’t always where the problem starts.

At Vidrine Integrative Physical Therapy, I look at the whole movement system—not just the painful body part. Your mid-back, neck, shoulder, and even the way your body moves as a whole may be connected.

If your mid-back constantly feels tight or you’re dealing with stubborn shoulder, elbow, or wrist pain, it may be time to look beyond the obvious.

Move Better. Feel Better. Live Better.

🤕 Mid-Back Pain: What’s Causing It?

Your thoracic spine (mid-back) is designed to be more stable and less mobile than your neck and low back. That stability helps protect it from injury—but it doesn’t make it immune to pain.

Mid-back discomfort can develop for a variety of reasons, including:

🔹 Poor posture – especially spending hours rounded over a computer or phone
🔹 Prolonged sitting – which can place extra stress on the muscles and joints of the thoracic spine
🔹 Kyphosis or scoliosis – changes in spinal alignment can contribute to stiffness and discomfort
🔹 Muscle or ligament strains – often caused by an unexpected movement, lifting, or trauma
🔹 Rib or vertebral injuries – including bruising or fractures
🔹 Osteoporosis – weakened bones can increase the risk of compression fractures
🔹 Repetitive activities – frequent lifting, bending, reaching, or twisting can lead to overuse and irritation

The good news? Mid-back pain isn’t something you simply have to live with.

A physical therapist can evaluate your posture, spinal and rib mobility, strength, movement patterns, and other contributing factors to determine what’s really driving your pain.

Treatment may include hands-on manual therapy, myofascial release, mobility exercises, strengthening, posture and movement retraining, dry needling, and a personalized home exercise program.

At Vidrine Integrative Physical Therapy, we look beyond the painful spot to find the underlying cause and create a treatment plan specific to YOU.
