A fall health checkup is just what the doctor ordered! 🐔🩺 Give your birds a scan so you and your flock can head into winter with confidence.

✔️Keep an eye out for reduced appetite, weight loss or low energy.
✔️Check birds for clear, bright eyes.
✔️Listen for sneezing or breathing issues.
✔️Examine eggshell strength.
✔️Conduct a parasite check.

If you notice your flock is showing any signs of illness or stress, contact your local veterinarian for proper treatment.

For Tami Mullin, Purina ambassador and owner of Rusty Moose Farm, watching her baby chicks grow into a thriving flock is what brings her the most joy. “The ultimate goal is to see it through all the way from the egg to them free-ranging on the grass on a beautiful sunny day,” she says.

Ensuring her chickens are set up for success is key to every decision Tami makes — including what she feeds. That’s why over several generations of birds, Tami has relied on Layena® High Protein Layer Pellets to keep her flock happy and healthy.

“At the end of the day, I give them unconditional love, and I give them the best care, the best feed, the best housing, the best everything that I possibly can.”

If you're seeing more falling feathers than leaves — don't panic! Shorter days signal to your birds that it's time to slow down and gear up for winter.🐔🪶🍂

Here’s how to support your backyard birds during molt:

✅ Ensure they have enough protein in their diet to help with feather regrowth.
✅ Reduce handling as molting can cause skin sensitivity.
✅ Offer enough space for birds to relax in private.
✅ Avoid introducing new flock members as it may add unnecessary stress.

Flock-tober is officially here 🐔🎃

A whole month dedicated to celebrating the birds that give us eggs, destroy our gardens, escape their enclosures and somehow still convince us to keep buying them treats.

But what I really want to see is your flock! Show me what you love about raising chickens and tag me and Purina Backyard so we can celebrate your crew all month long.

Happy from The Shiloh Farm! 🐓
