How soon can I have surgery? In some cases, surgery can be scheduled as soon as one week after your consultation, depending on your individual care needs and readiness.

Tamarack Health Ashland Medical Center and Tamarack Health Hayward Medical Center have each received a 2026 Crystal Vision Award from the Lions Eye Bank of Wisconsin (LEBW), honoring their role in advancing eye, organ, and tissue donation. Both were named Hospital Partners of the Year, among 16 hospitals, medical examiner offices and funeral homes recognized statewide.

In 2025, donors from the two hospitals gave the gift of sight to an estimated 18 people in Wisconsin, across the U.S. and around the world — six through Ashland Medical Center and 12 through Hayward Medical Center. LEBW presented each award in person at ceremonies at each hospital.

“Every one of these gifts starts with a donor and a family who said yes during the hardest moment of their lives,” said Lance Ritola, Director of Nursing at Tamarack Health Ashland Medical Center. “Our teams in Ashland and Hayward are honored to help carry out those wishes with care and respect, and this award belongs to those families as much as it does to us.”

In 2025 alone, LEBW cared for 1,148 donor heroes, provided 1,739 tissues for transplant, and shared the gift of sight with 718 people in more than 35 countries where corneal transplants are extremely rare.

Special thanks to Sara Balbin and Gary Crandall and to all of their friends who attended the Girls Night Out event they hosted at Dragonfly Studio. Attendees generously donated money to support the direct needs of cancer patients receiving treatment at our Hayward Medical Center and Northwest Wisconsin Cancer Center. We thank you for extending your friendship to those needing support during a difficult journey.

Last week Tamarack Health supported 4 separate National Night Out Events in Ashland, Hayward, Minong and Springbrook. We provided volunteers and over 300 bike helmets, with personal fittings and safety lessons to kids and families.

We are proud to partner with area law enforcement and community officials to support this nationwide effort to bring communities together. We encourage Northwestern Wisconsin communities hosting National Night Out events to reach out to [email protected], we would love an invitation to join your event.

Tamarack Health is proud to be part of our community’s National Night Out celebrations to promote police and community partnerships on August 4th.

We will have free bike helmets for the whole family at the Ashland Police Department; Hayward Intermediate School; Love Memorial Field in Minong and at the VFW in Springbrook from 5 - 7 PM or while supplies last. Remember to always ride safe!

Tamarack Health Hayward Medical Center hosted a regional Spinning Babies training on May 15, bringing together obstetric nurses, physicians, physical therapists, doulas, and other birth professionals from across Wisconsin and Minnesota. The training, organized by the OB team at Hayward Medical Center, reflects a broader organizational commitment to reducing cesarean birth rates (C-sections) and improving outcomes for low-risk, first-time mothers.
