The concept of integrity encompasses many other pillars of clinical herbal practice including reliability, trustworthiness, transparency, patience, and accountability.

Integrity is also about knowing your limits and respecting yourself and others enough to recognize when you have reached those limits

As a profession, herbalism can’t easily be put into a single cultural box as there are many different traditions of herbalism across space and time that have informed its practice.

So ‘the genius of a people’, or the ethos of clinical herbal practice, is likely as diasporic as its multi-faceted cultural origins and traditions.

It can be difficult to know precisely where one’s moral compass should lie when the terrain is so unwaveringly diverse.

Integrity is not something that we are just born with nor is it just given to us freely from some outside source. Instead it is hard-earned, forged from both the tribulations and celebrations of our human journeys.

So like all benevolent forces, it can waver. Indeed, in these critical moments - where one sits on the edge of compromising one’s values and wholeness - I have found that integrity is something that I have to ‘feel’ and ‘self-regulate’ into - like a strong river current seeking the sea.

Each month the Herbal Practice Connexion (HPX) is guided by a theme - one of the 12 pillars of clinical herbal practice. These include:

4) Integrity
5) Professionalism
6) Ethics
7) Transparency

9) Accountability
10) Reliability
11) Patience
12) Collaboration.

Each of these themes represent an opportunity for clinical herbalists to gather and share their thoughts and ideas surrounding how each pillar of herbal practice shows up in their clinical and business practices. We also share and discuss how these pillars influence our personal and professional relationships with our clients, our colleagues, and other health and wellness professionals.

The conversations we are having surrounding these pillars of herbal practice are as important now as they have ever been. Rooted in our values as herbalists and entrepreneurs, these pillars can be a guiding light when our professional foundations are being shaken off center and we are feeling lost in the dark.

Integrity is a key subject of exploration for me
at all levels of my ‘beingness’ - as a daughter, a friend, a parent, a community member, a citizen, a colleague, an entrepreneur, and a practitioner of herbalism.

Integrity goes beyond simply maintaining my moral and ethical values - I have also come to recognize integrity as a benevolent force that holds my wholeness together, especially at times when I truly believe I am at risk of being torn asunder.

We will be gathering to share inspiration and practical experience, workshop challenges, and celebrate wins through monthly meetups, Q & A sessions, and roundtable discussions. We will also be gathering to hone our clinical, business, and marketing skills with exclusive specialty trainings, monthly accountability quests, study groups, and mentorship opportunities...all the while cultivating nurturing habits surrounding rest, reflection, and self-empathy.
