✨ ESTIE BESTIE TIME ✨ Let’s talk EXFOLIATION! 🫧💖

Did you know there are different ways to exfoliate? 👀 Let's break down mechanical, physical, and chemical exfoliation so you know the difference!

🩷 MECHANICAL EXFOLIATION

Think tools and professional treatments that help remove dead skin cells through physical action! This can include exfoliating devices and treatments like dermaplaning or microdermabrasion. HydraFacial treatments can also incorporate physical exfoliation!

Be gentle, bestie! Too much friction or overly aggressive treatments can irritate your skin barrier. Professional treatments are best left to a trained, licensed provider. 😉

💗 PHYSICAL EXFOLIATION

This uses particles or textured materials to manually remove dead skin cells from the skin’s surface. Think facial scrubs with jojoba beads, rice powder, or other exfoliating particles.

GENTLE pressure is key! 🫧 Scrubbing harder doesn't mean better results!

💜 CHEMICAL EXFOLIATION

No scrubbing required! Chemical exfoliants use ingredients that help loosen the bonds between dead skin cells so they can shed more easily.

Some examples include:

✨ AHAs — glycolic acid & lactic acid
✨ BHAs — salicylic acid
✨ PHAs — gluconolactone

Depending on the ingredient and your skin's needs, these can help improve the appearance of uneven texture, dullness, and clogged pores.

💡 ESTIE BESTIE TIP: Mechanical and physical exfoliation are often used interchangeably because both involve physical action to remove dead skin cells. Mechanical exfoliation can also refer more specifically to tools or devices used for exfoliation. Chemical exfoliation works differently by using exfoliating ingredients rather than scrubbing.

🚨 Remember: MORE exfoliation does NOT mean better skin! Over-exfoliating can lead to redness, irritation, dryness, and a compromised skin barrier. Your skin type, condition, and tolerance all matter!
