Praxis: one of the things that OTs treat!
Praxis is a complex skill that is measured when a child engages in an unfamiliar environment or with an unfamiliar task.
It involves IDEATION, or coming up with ideas.
It involves PLANNING, the ability to plan and organize ideas and materials.
It involves EX*****ON, being able to perform and execute the plan.
Furthermore, praxis involves the imitation of physical postures (postural praxis), the ability to complete block designs or work through visual patterns (visuopraxis) and also the ability to listen to a command and perform a physical task (praxis on verbal command).
Some children struggle with one area, while others struggle with all 3.
Of your child struggles with any of this, working with an occupational therapist who is skilled in praxis can really support your child, and boost their confidence!
