Here is a sweet thank you note from one of our patients!

“Dear Angel Flight, In this short note we wish to express our most sincere appreciation and admiration. The love and many blessings that we and many others in our same situation have received from your organization and pilots is truly humbling. It has become so clear to us why people do the things they do when someone is in need. Please know how much we appreciate everything. With hearts full of gratitude and love, we send our heartfelt thanks for all that you have done.”

This day in history!

American aviator Wiley Post completed the first solo flight around the world in 1933. He covered 15,596 miles in 7 days, 18 hours, 49 minutes. On this flight he proved the value of navigational instruments, including the automatic pilot.

Aviation would not be the same without his contributions.

Going the Extra Mile for our Patients!

We love when two patients get to hop in the plane with one volunteer pilot! Chris and Robert received a flight home to Franklin, NC from the Burn and Reconstructive Centers of America in Augusta GA. We are grateful for our volunteer pilots who make these missions possible. We're happy to play a part in getting these fellas home from the life changing medical treatment they deserve! 😇

Man walks on the moon!

On July 20, 1969, Neil Armstrong and "Buzz" Aldrin climb into the lunar module Eagle and begin the descent down in the Sea of Tranquility. When the lunar module landed at 4:17 p.m EDT, only 30 seconds of fuel remained. Armstrong radios Houston, "The Eagle has landed."

Over the next three and a half years, 10 astronauts followed in their footsteps. Gene Cernan, commander of the last Apollo mission left the lunar surface with these words: "We leave as we came and, God willing, as we shall return, with peace, and hope for all mankind."

We salute these aviation pioneers.

Our Pilot Bob had this to say about his most recent mission:

"Our passenger was Stephanie, a mid-forties wife and mother of a teenage daughter. I learned that she had just two weeks prior had become a liver donor. Inquisitive as to how she could have healed so quickly, Stephanie told me that her procedure was laparoscopic and that only about 1/3 of her liver was taken. This was probably for a baby or young child as she didn’t know anything about the recipient. Her donation was anonymous. I also learned that several years earlier she had already donated a kidney! What a testimony of a person’s unselfish generosity!

We offered prayer for the continued safety of our flight on to Wilmington and for quick healing of Stephanie’s procedure. We then flew off towards Wilmington. Stephanie was asleep before I had even climbed to our cruse altitude. She slept soundly all the way home! On landing at Wilmington Stephanie was met by her husband and daughter, both glad to see her after nearly a month away at the Cleveland Clinic.

Andy and I returned to Winston-Salem just before dark and were both awed by our experience. I enjoy sharing my gift of being able to fly Angel Flight missions and help others who may need to get from home to hope. But Stephanie has blown me away with her unselfish gift to others whom she may not have even known. "

Another sweet note from one of our patients!

"Thank you so much! I truly enjoyed my flight getting here, my body is so happy. Normally after the long ride they keep me in a wheelchair while I’m here at the hospital. Guess what... I been walking without assistance ❤️

THANK YOU ALL SO MUCH 😭😇 I've cried tears of joy every time I think of your genuine help to women suffering around the globe. I leave tomorrow... such a blessing."

Pilot Spotlight!

Ben Cason has been an Angel Flight Soars volunteer pilot for over 8 years - with over 50 years of flight experience!

His most memorable Angel Flight Soars mission was his first. Ben was faced with a line of thunderstorms spanning several hundreds miles in length.

The Salisbury FBO had closed, and Ben thought he could sleep under his Cessna to wait out the storms. Fortunately, the janitor had not secured one of the FBO doors, and he ended up finding a nice couch to sleep on. Early the next morning, he flew home.

"I want to thank Angel Flight Soars for letting me participate as a pilot, and I hope to fly missions for at least 20 more years."

"Dear Pilot Julian and Angel Flight Soars,

We cannot thank you enough for carrying our aunt safely in your plane from Columbus, GA, to West Palm Beach, FL, on March 12, 2021!

At the time of that flight, our aunt had suffered a stroke that limited her ability to speak and to swallow. Because she was reliant on a feeding tube through her abdomen and was unable to fully communicate, she was very vulnerable and in need of significant medical care and support, complicated by COVID-19 protocols.

By transporting her (accompanied by her 79-year-old sister) here to Palm Beach County, you enabled her to be surrounded by loved ones who could ensure she had the medical care, companionship and services needed during her recovery.

Our aunt has made amazing progress since her stroke on February 23, 2021, and we believe that would not have been possible without your assistance.

Pilot Julian rolled out the red carpet for our aunt (literally), and he continued to check on her after her arrival. For your compassionate customer service and caring heart, we thank you!

Thank you, Angel Flight Soars and Pilot Julian, for your generosity and thoughtfulness, and for being such an important part of our aunt’s healing journey!"

Nancy is a 79 year old patient who has been flying with us since 2016. We used to take her to Ann Arbor, MI and now she travels to Duke University in Raleigh, NC for treatment. Thank you Bob for helping Nancy get to the care she needs!

"I have had serious eye problems for six years, and the help I needed was in Ann Arbor, Michigan. I could not drive, and it is a long way from Western North Carolina. I cannot count the number of times they have flown me back and forth all these years. The pilots are friendly, but more importantly skilled avationist! I always felt SAFE! The best news is that just this week, I have seen a university-level specialist that can, and will, finally do the needed surgery! Words are simply insufficient to adequately express my thanks and gratitude... but they are all I have."
