Seven weeks into maternity leave, and I’m starting to feel that yearning for patient care. 💛
I’ve been thinking about one of my favorite parts of being an audiologist: watching someone’s life change for the better, right in front of me.
Maybe you’ve been that patient.
You walk through our doors for the first time, a little skeptical about hearing care. You’re wondering if you really need hearing aids, what they’ll sound like, or what other people might think.
We talk. We complete a comprehensive hearing evaluation. We figure out what’s going on and find a solution that feels right for you.
Then comes the fitting, and a couple of weeks later, your follow-up appointment.
That’s when the magic happens.
You walk through the door smiling. You’re chatting with Amanda and Abby at the front desk. You’re catching up while making coffee at the Keurig at the same time.
And when I call you back, you can’t wait to tell me about all the sounds you’ve rediscovered, the conversations that feel easier, and the things you’ve been doing over the past two weeks.
Then, on your way out the door, you’re telling the other patients in the waiting room how awesome your hearing aids are. The person who once worried about what everyone would think is now sharing their excitement with everyone around them. You become the life of the party!
I LOVE that moment.
I love watching people reconnect with the conversations, experiences, and little everyday moments that make life so meaningful. I love seeing confidence grow. And I love that I get to be part of that journey.
To our patients who have trusted us with your hearing journey, thank you. Getting to witness those little victories, big milestones, and everything in between is one of the greatest joys of my job.
Audiology has been rated #1 on the “best jobs” list and going on 7 weeks without it, I remember why!
I’m looking forward to being back in the office and making more of those memories with you. There’s no better job.
Just a couple more weeks of Bettie time! 💛
