Congratulations to Alec!

Dr. Zsolt Bagi and MD/PhD student Alec Davila, at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, have found that a chemical in our bodies known to help blood vessels dilate also sends that signal to the larger blood vessels that more blood is needed.

Congratulations to Mayokun Oshinowo, one of our first-year MD/PhD students, who recently presented his research at the American Society of Hematology Annual Meeting in San Diego! Mo also received a Minority Graduate Student Abstract Achievement Travel Award. His research focuses on a potential biomarker for bleeding risk in patients with the bleeding disorder known as ITP.

We love to brag on our awesome students, and these two are no exception! First-year medical student Camila Albo (left) and first-year MD/PhD student Oluwamayokun Oshinowo, or Mo for short, just returned from presenting their research at the American Society for Hemotology's Annual Meeting in San Diego. Did you know that 75 percent of MCG students participate in research?
Camila presented her work on characteristics and potential biomarkers in adult sickle cell patients with chronic pain.
Mo presented on his research into a potential biomarker for bleeding risk in patients with the bleeding disorder known as ITP.
Congrats to you both!

Congratulations, Miranda!

Medical Partnership students have a wide variety of interests and experiences. Student Miranda Hayworth, Class of 2017, recently completed her PhD, working with Dr. Stephen Dalton at UGA. Miranda spoke last week at the groundbreaking for the Center for Molecular Medicine, which will house 10 research groups who will conduct translational research that positively impacts human health.

In her comments, Miranda stated that "research, without a doubt, enhances the quality of modern medicine." We are so glad to have Miranda completing her medical education at the Medical Partnership.
