🇺🇸 Supporting Those Who Served — And the Families Who Stand Beside Them!

In recognition of October’s National Mental Health Screening Month, the Veterans Assistance Commission of Will County is excited to host a FREE Mental Health Screening & Community Resource Fair on Friday, October 30th from 9AM-3PM.

Our goal is simple: to make sure veterans, caregivers, and surviving spouses throughout Will County know that support is available and that they do not have to navigate life’s challenges alone.

We are proud to partner with clinical providers from Midwest Shelter for Homeless Veterans’ V.E.T.S Clinical Program and Mindful Healing Counseling Center to offer free, 15-minute mental health screenings.

These brief screenings are an opportunity to check in, discuss concerns, and connect with our team to explore ongoing therapy, case management, and other supportive services based on individual needs.

But we’re offering more than just mental health screenings!

We will also have a community resource fair featuring local Will County organizations offering assistance with:

* Financial assistance and community resources
* Legal aid and supportive services
* Veteran benefits and service-connected disability questions with Veteran Service Officers
* Case management, therapy coordination, and additional wellness resources

☕ Complimentary snacks and beverages will be provided!

We recognize that supporting veterans means looking at the bigger picture. Mental wellness is often connected to financial stability, access to resources, relationships, and having someone to turn to when life becomes overwhelming.

Whether you’re a veteran looking for additional support, a caregiver navigating challenges, or a surviving spouse seeking resources, this event is for you.

All screenings and event services are completely FREE!

What a true honor to be part of a proper Welcome Home for USMC Vietnam Veteran Robert — and on his birthday, no less. 🇺🇸🇺🇸

We at Forefront Resilience Counseling are so grateful to Sara Gavin, Outreach Specialist and VSO with the Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County, for rallying the troops and bringing so many people together to surprise Robert today.

Supporting Veterans and their partners is exactly what we built our practice for. The look on Robert’s face as he received coins, patches, flags, a quilt, and other gifts was PRICELESS. Just as beautiful was watching his wife take in the incredible amount of love and support surrounding them both today.

There are some moments that remind you exactly why you do what you do.

Today was one of them. ❤️🤍💙

If the weather persists, we will do a drive thru instead to still honor our veteran.

🇺🇸 **Help Us Give a Vietnam Veteran the Welcome Home He Deserves** 🇺🇸

The Veterans Assistance Commission of Kendall County is organizing a special “Welcome Home” for Robert, a United States Marine Corps Vietnam veteran, and his wife, Medoradella.

Robert served as a machine gunner assigned to a medevac team during his combat tour in Vietnam. Like far too many Vietnam veterans, he did not receive the proper welcome home he deserved. Robert is now terminally ill with service-related lung cancer, and Medoradella’s wish is to honor him with a meaningful homecoming surrounded by the support and gratitude of his community.

The event will take place on Robert’s birthday:

📅 **Saturday, August 15, 2026**
🕘 **Lineup begins at 9:00 a.m.**
🏠 **Robert is expected to arrive at his Joliet home around 9:30 a.m.**

While Robert and Medoradella are away enjoying breakfast—his favorite meal of the day—we hope to line the route to their home with veterans organizations, motorcycle brigades, law enforcement, fire departments, first responders, and community members.

Upon his arrival, Robert will be honored with a special ceremony. Veteran and service organizations are invited to coin or pin this deserving Marine.

Please join us to give Robert the welcome home he earned and create a lasting memory for Medoradella and their family. Comment or message us if you, your organization, or your department can participate.

It was an honor to be part of the Support the Troops BBQ at Riverview Ford. 🇺🇸
