Have you ever left a doctor’s appointment feeling like you still didn’t have answers?

Your labs came back normal, but you’re still exhausted. Your bloating gets labeled as IBS.

Your hormone concerns are brushed off because “hormones fluctuate.” And somehow, you’re left wondering what to do next.

This is where functional medicine takes a different approach.

Rather than looking at symptoms in isolation, we look at the bigger picture.

Your health history, nutrition, sleep, stress, metabolic health, hormones, gut health, and how these systems may be connected.

We want to understand not just WHAT you’re experiencing, but WHY it may be happening.

🌿 Curious whether functional medicine might be a good fit for you?

We see patients in Austin and San Antonio, with virtual appointments available throughout Texas.

If you’ve spent any time looking into functional medicine, you’ve probably realized pretty quickly that not every practice works the same way.

And when it comes to your health, I think you deserve to know what you’re signing up for.

You should know how your provider thinks about your care, why they’re recommending a test or treatment, what they can and can’t do for you, and what you can expect from working together.

My approach isn’t about ordering every test available, handing you an overwhelming protocol, or asking you to choose between functional and conventional medicine.

It’s thoughtful, individualized medical care with enough time to ask better questions, look at the bigger picture, and decide what actually makes sense for you.

Austin, we’re still here! 💙

With all the excitement around opening our new San Antonio location, I realized I may not have made that clear enough.

Wild Fig is growing, but I’m continuing to see both new and existing patients in Austin, while also welcoming new patients in San Antonio.

I’m so grateful that this next season means getting to serve more people without saying goodbye to the community where Wild Fig has already put down roots.

So, whether you’re in Austin or San Antonio, if you’ve been looking for a functional medicine provider who will take the time to dig deeper into your symptoms and look at the bigger picture of your health, I’d love to work with you.

Cortisol has somehow become the hormone everyone is trying to lower.

But “high cortisol” doesn’t tell me much without knowing when it’s high.

Cortisol is supposed to change throughout the day.

It typically rises around waking to help you feel alert and ready for the day, then gradually declines toward nighttime.

That’s why one cortisol number can only tell us so much.

When I’m looking at a DUTCH Test,

I’m interested in the full daily pattern:

👉 Is cortisol rising and falling when we’d expect it to?
👉 What does total cortisol production look like?
👉 How much is circulating freely?
👉 How quickly are you clearing it?

➡️ Swipe through to see why the difference matters.

If you’ve ever Googled your symptoms at midnight because you were told everything looked fine, this is for you.

I know that feeling personally.

I became a functional medicine nurse practitioner after being the patient sitting in the doctor’s office, getting “normal” results, and leaving without an explanation for why I still felt off.

It’s a huge part of why Wild Fig exists today.

When a patient tells me something has changed, I take that seriously.

I want to know when it started, what else was happening around the same time, and whether there are patterns in their hormones, thyroid, metabolic health, gut health, sleep, or other areas that could help us understand what’s going on.

Those details matter, and they can give us clues about what to investigate next.

A lot of women start noticing changes as they get older and assume they’re just supposed to live with them.

Some of these symptoms do become more common with age, but that doesn’t mean age is the only thing worth looking at.

In my practice, I’m also thinking about hormone changes, thyroid function, insulin resistance and metabolic health, digestive health, nutrient status, sleep, medications, and how those pieces may be interacting.

Sometimes hormone support is part of the answer. Sometimes it isn’t.

The goal is to understand what may be contributing so we can choose treatment that makes sense for you.

If you’ve been told everything looks “normal” but you still don’t feel like yourself, there may be more worth investigating.

There are a few things I come back to over and over when we’re talking about estrogen health, and most of them are not complicated.

Fiber matters. Regular bowel movements matter. Cruciferous vegetables matter. Alcohol matters. Reducing certain everyday chemical exposures can matter too.

Not because any one of these is going to “fix your hormones,” but because estrogen has to be metabolized and cleared from the body, and these are some of the everyday factors that can influence that process.

You do not need to overhaul your entire life.

Start with the things you do most often:
what you eat, how regularly you’re going to the bathroom, what you’re heating food in, how often you’re drinking, and the exposures you can reasonably reduce.

Small changes are still useful when they are specific and consistent.

Save this one as a practical place to start 🤍

Most people hear “estrogen” and immediately think one thing:

➡️ Is it high or is it low?

But that’s not the only question I’m asking.

Once your body has used estrogen, it still has to metabolize it.

And the route it takes through metabolism can give us another layer of information that a standard estradiol level simply doesn’t show.

That’s one reason I often use the Dutch Test.

I’m not looking at a 2-OH, 4-OH, or 16-OH result in isolation and labeling it “good” or “bad.”

I’m looking at the overall pattern, how those metabolites relate to one another, and whether that information helps make sense of what you’re experiencing.

Because sometimes the question isn’t simply, “How much estrogen do you have?”

It’s also, “What is your body doing with it?”

If you’ve been dealing with persistent hormone-related symptoms and want a more personalized, root-cause approach, Wild Fig is accepting new patients in San Antonio and Texas, and virtually throughout Texas.

Well… I have some exciting news! 🤍

My family and I recently made the move from Austin to San Antonio, and Wild Fig is growing with me!

I’m so excited to start putting down roots here, get to know the San Antonio community, and continue growing this practice in a city we now get to call home.

And to my Austin patients, I’m not leaving you!

I’ll continue seeing patients in person in Austin one day per week, and virtual appointments will continue to be available for patients throughout Texas.

If you’re in San Antonio and new to Wild Fig, welcome! 👋

I take a personalized, root-cause approach to functional medicine, looking deeper at things like hormones, thyroid function, gut health, metabolism, and the other pieces that may be contributing to how you feel.

I’m really excited for this next chapter and can’t wait to meet more of you here in San Antonio.

If you know someone in the area who has been looking for this kind of care, send this post their way!

If we’ve never met, hi 👋

This is probably the quickest way to figure out whether we’d get along.

I believe medicine should be evidence-based and deeply personalized.

I believe your symptoms deserve to be taken seriously, even when the answer isn’t immediately obvious.

I believe women deserve thoughtful conversations about hormone therapy, not fear or one-size-fits-all recommendations.

I don’t think healing should rely on endless supplements or restrictive diets. And I don’t think feeling miserable in perimenopause is something women should simply accept.

Most of all, I believe the best medicine starts with listening.

If that resonates with you, welcome 🤍

If not, that’s okay too.

There’s room for different approaches, and I’m glad you’re here long enough to find the one that feels right for you.

📍Wild Fig Functional Medicine provides virtual care for Texas residents. If you’re looking for a root-cause, personalized approach to your health, I would love to meet you.
