We are so proud of you, Esra Guner, for your dedication to service for others in Antigua, Guatemala. 💙
From Esra:
Going on a medical mission to an impoverished country is truly a transformative experience that I will cherish forever. You return to your same life, your same job, the same people around you, your same routine, but you’ve changed. Everything is the same, but you are not the same.
Despite the language barrier, I’ve never felt this amount of genuine gratitude and appreciation from my patients. My heart is immensely fulfilled and I know without a doubt that I chose the right profession for my soul. My intuition has guided me to the realization that my life’s purpose is to spread light and healing in this world. There is darkness in this world, but I believe there is even more light if we truly look around and become more aware and intentional with our lives.
I had the pleasure of working with a group of nursing students from Denver College of Nursing who are genuinely good people, competent in their practice, and will be incredible nurses one day. I love seeing new nurses who have high level of compassion and empathy entering the nursing field.
I know we have our own issues as a country and healthcare system, but I feel so grateful to live in The United States. We take the simple things for granted like being able to afford a toothbrush, toothpaste, eye drops, drinking water, etc. We often lose sight of how truly blessed we are when we don’t have to use bottled water to brush our teeth, live without air conditioning, and have toilets that flush.
