You got a friend in Jett!

When Jett was just hours old, he was transferred to Dell Children’s after experiencing seizures caused by multiple strokes. There, he received specialized care from our U.S. News and World Report nationally ranked neonatology and neurology teams, including neonatologist Dr. Ashley Lucke and neurologist Dr. Leah Ferrante.

Now Jett has special fans cheering him on the baseball field. Two familiar faces: Dr. Ferrante and Dr. Lucke.

From NICU milestones to first at-bat, we’ll always be cheering you on, Jett. 💙⚾

Dell Children’s Medical Center’s Comprehensive Fetal Care Center has completed its first serial prenatal amnioinfusion for fetal renal failure, bringing this highly specialized fetal therapy to Central Texas.

Led by Dr. Alireza Shamshirsaz through a clinical partnership with Dell Medical School - UT Austin, the procedure supports fetal lung development for pregnancies impacted by early pregnancy renal anhydramnios (EPRA). It may help create a pathway toward postnatal survival, neonatal dialysis and eventual pediatric kidney transplantation when clinically appropriate.

This milestone expands access to advanced fetal care for families in Central Texas and surrounding communities, closer to home. This landmark achievement places Dell Children's among an elite tier of fetal therapy centers nationwide.

Given Austin’s central location and the limited number of fully comprehensive, world class fetal programs nationwide, Dell Children's is uniquely positioned to welcome families from across the country.

Congratulations to our DAISY Award Honoree, Melodye Becker, BSN, RN!

We were honored to celebrate Melodye’s award with Caitlin, her nominator, as well as the patient’s brother, aunt, uncle, cousins, grandmother, and grandfather. Melodye’s nomination highlights her advocacy, compassion, and commitment to serving the babies in our NICU.

Caitlin shared, “Our NICU experience would not be the same without Melodye.” She “is the kind of nurse every family hopes they have caring for their child. We will always be grateful for the difference she has made in Lanie's life and in ours. She is so deserving of the DAISY Award because she doesn't just do her job—she changes lives.”

The Safe Kids Austin Symposium brought together community leaders, health professionals and young professionals to discuss child injury prevention and building a safer, more family-friendly Austin.

We heard from Safe Kids Austin Vice President Denise Geleitsmann and Dr. Rohit Shenoi, who discussed using AI to assess risk and protective factors.

Together, these discussions highlighted the importance of collaboration and innovation in keeping kids safe. Thank you, Safe Kids Austin! We’re already looking forward to next year.

We loved being part of Babies & Bumps Austin 2026! 💛

Babies & Bumps is an event for new and soon-to-be parents, connecting families with trusted health experts, local resources, classes, demonstrations and support for pregnancy, birth and life with a baby.

Our team from the new Ascension Seton Women’s Hospital was proud to connect with families; while Dell Children’s doctors shared valuable information, and our team led a hands-on infant CPR class.

From expert guidance and baby gear demonstrations to meaningful conversations and community resources, the event helped parents and parents-to-be feel more informed and confident as they prepare for what’s next.

What makes pediatric sports medicine and orthopedics different at Dell Children’s in Austin? Here, former college athletes Dr. Stephanie Logterman and Dr. Matthew Ellington combine personal sports experience with specialized pediatric orthopedic care for young athletes.
