Why do ear infections keep coming back? 👂

The answer may involve your Eustachian tubes!

When these small passages aren’t working properly, fluid can become trapped behind the eardrum, potentially leading to recurring middle ear infections, pressure, and muffled hearing.

Andrew Clark, PA-C, of Capital ENT & Sinus Center explains why this happens, why children are especially susceptible, and how an ENT evaluation can help identify the underlying problem.

If you or your child are experiencing repeated ear infections, our team is here to help.

Meet Tennessen McLean, PA-C 👋

Tennessen began her career as an ICU nurse before continuing her education at the University of Washington. An ENT rotation — particularly working with patients experiencing dizziness and ear concerns — helped spark her interest in the specialty. TM NORM.txt

What matters most to her now is making sure patients feel heard, informed and involved in their care. She enjoys getting to know her patients, addressing their concerns as a whole, and building a plan together. TM NORM.txt

Biologics for Nasal Polyps: Injections, Surgery, or Both?

Biologics are injectable medicines that calm the specific type of inflammation that causes nasal polyps to grow. They can shrink polyps, ease congestion and lower the odds of needing another polyp operation.

But biologics aren’t usually the first step. Steroid nasal sprays typically come first, and surgery is still the usual next step when sprays aren’t enough. For many patients, treatment may ultimately involve both surgery and a biologic. (Capital ENT & Sinus Center)

Dr. Latif Dharamsi breaks down how biologics work, who may be a candidate and how they fit alongside traditional sinus surgery.

If you have obstructive sleep apnea but struggle to use or tolerate CPAP, you may have heard about Inspire® therapy. But what exactly is Inspire, how does it work, and how do you know if you may be a candidate?

In this video, Cassie R. Dean, PA-C with Capital ENT & Sinus Center, explains how Inspire works as an implantable treatment for obstructive sleep apnea. The system monitors your breathing while you sleep and delivers gentle stimulation to the nerve that controls the tongue, helping keep the airway open.

Cassie also explains why having sleep apnea and difficulty using CPAP doesn’t automatically mean Inspire is right for you. Determining candidacy involves evaluating the airway and looking at how it behaves during sleep before deciding whether Inspire may provide long-term benefit.

If you’ve been diagnosed with obstructive sleep apnea and haven’t been able to tolerate CPAP or receive adequate benefit from it, talk with an ENT who treats sleep apnea about whether Inspire may be an option for you.

Ever wondered what balloon sinuplasty actually looks like from inside the nose?

Dr. Latif Dharamsi of Capital ENT & Sinus Center walks us through a real balloon sinuplasty procedure using endoscopic footage, showing how he locates and opens blocked sinus pathways to improve drainage.

This patient continued to experience chronic sinus symptoms despite medical treatment, so a minimally invasive balloon procedure was selected. A001C009_2603234Y_CANON.MXF.txt

Could one simple daily habit help improve your sinus health?

Cassie R. Dean, PA-C, of Capital ENT & Sinus Center explains why ENT specialists frequently recommend nasal saline irrigation.

Regular nasal rinses can help wash away allergens, dust, and mucus, reduce congestion, and support healthier sinuses. They can also help nasal medications reach the tissue they’re designed to treat.

💧 Remember: Always use distilled, sterile, or previously boiled and cooled water for nasal irrigation, and clean your device after each use.

If you’re experiencing persistent sinus congestion, allergies, or recurring sinus pressure, our team is here to help.

What’s the difference between a hearing aid and a cochlear implant? 👂

Hearing aids primarily work by making sounds louder. Cochlear implants work differently — they’re designed for people with more severe hearing loss when traditional hearing aids may no longer provide enough clarity.

Margaux Colburn, AuD, with Capital ENT & Sinus Center explains how cochlear implants work, who may benefit from them, and why they can be life-changing for the right candidate.

If your hearing aids no longer seem to be giving you the clarity you need, an additional hearing evaluation may help determine what options are available.

Sore throat. Swollen tonsils. Is it tonsillitis? Is it bacterial? Or is it something that may clear up on its own?

Andrew Clark, PA-C, with Capital ENT & Sinus Center explains why tonsillitis is so common in kids and teens — and why tonsillitis doesn’t automatically mean antibiotics.

If your child’s symptoms are getting worse, they’re having significant difficulty eating or drinking, or tonsillitis keeps coming back, it may be time for an evaluation.
