What are aflatoxins, and how can they get into food?

Certain molds can contaminate crops such as corn and peanuts. But detecting a mycotoxin does not, by itself, diagnose illness or establish the cause of symptoms.

What caused the 2004 outbreak in Kenya that claimed 125 lives?

Aflatoxin contamination in maize. CDC reported 317 cases of suspected aflatoxin poisoning and 125 deaths. This was a food contamination outbreak, not mushroom poisoning.

A published study reported higher odds of Parkinson disease among people living within 1 mile of a golf course, compared with people living more than 6 miles away. That is an association from one research setting. It does not prove golf course chemicals caused Parkinson disease in any one person.

PFAS can show up in drinking water, indoor air, and some nonstick cookware.

Water options people consider include whole home filtration, reverse osmosis, nanofiltration, and activated carbon. I do not rely on HVAC alone for indoor air. For cookware, I use cast iron, stainless steel, or glass instead of PFAS nonstick.

A positive molecular finding can be real and still not be a diagnosis.

In our selected retrospective explant series, 203 of 694 submitted capsule or tissue samples had positive microbiological findings on targeted molecular profiling. That is a molecular finding in a specimen. It does not establish organism viability, active infection, symptom causation, treatment benefit, or a neurologic diagnosis.
