One of Ayurveda’s most grounding daily rituals, explained. 🌿
Meet Abhyanga, the Ayurvedic practice of self-massage using warm oil.
Rooted in the ancient wisdom of Ayurveda, Abhyanga is traditionally practiced to nourish the skin, calm the senses, and support balance within the body and mind.
In Ayurveda, this practice is especially beneficial during Vata season, when the qualities of cold, dry, light, and mobile tend to become more prominent.
The warmth of the oil, gentle rhythmic touch, and intentional slowing down offer an opportunity to reconnect with your body and invite the nervous system into a state of relaxation.
✨ How to practice Abhyanga:
• Warm a small amount of oil.
• Massage your body using long strokes along the limbs and circular motions around the joints.
• Move slowly, applying comfortable, gentle pressure.
• Allow the oil to absorb for 10–20 minutes before rinsing it off or taking a warm shower.
Beyond skincare, Abhyanga is an invitation to practice self-care as a form of daily devotion.
A reminder that how we care for ourselves off the mat is just as much a part of our yoga practice as what we do on it.
Save this for your next slow morning. 🤎
