Spilove Psychotherapy Healing happens here. We specialize in trauma & anxiety with EMDR, DBT, KAP & somatic therapy. LGBTQ+ affirming • Ardmore • Philly • Online.

You've been through so much in your life. You are often seen as the survivor but you feel like the outcast. The way you cope, the way you feel inside, it doesn't feel healthy any longer. You try to control what life circumstances you have been through with food, substances or other behaviors, but you have been left with only more anxiety and depression. Your past still follows you around in your relationships and you can't seem to shake the feeling that it won't ever get better. We help individuals on the Philadelphia Main Line and virtually of all races, genders and sexualities come to understand their past, learn healthier ways of coping and no longer be defined by their depression and anxiety.

You answer the emails. You remember the appointments. You notice someone’s discomfort before they say a word. People describe you as strong.

Then you get home and feel completely wiped out, and you can’t say why.

For some people, that exhaustion comes from managing themselves all day (staying helpful, calm, agreeable, productive, whatever the room seems to need). Sometimes that kind of performing starts as a trauma adaptation. Keeping the peace, reading the room, achieving, needing very little: these habits may have once kept you connected or safe. After enough years, they stop feeling like habits and start feeling like personality.

Our new blog post covers:

-How performing becomes a trauma pattern
-What parts work can show you about the version of yourself everyone sees
-Why your body can react before your logical mind steps in, and how EMDR can help
-How the mask follows you into relationships
-When a therapy intensive might fit better than weekly sessions

One question worth sitting with: what does this pattern believe would happen if I stopped?

If your identity feels fragmented or unclear right now, that’s more common than you think.

Many people notice different “versions” of themselves pulling in opposite directions—one that wants growth, one that wants safety, one that’s exhausted from holding it all together.

In Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapy, this is understood as having parts—protective patterns shaped by life experience that influence how we see ourselves, our relationships, and our choices. When those parts are listened to rather than judged or overridden, people often experience a natural re-orientation toward clarity, self-trust, and a more grounded sense of identity.

We offer IFS-informed therapy as a way to help you understand your inner system, reduce internal conflict, and reconnect with who you are beneath survival strategies. If you’re curious whether this approach could support you, visit the link in our bio and choose the “Trauma Therapy” option to learn a little more.

What if you’ve been trying to heal the wrong wound?

You’ve done therapy. You understand your patterns. You’ve learned the coping skills. And yet… you still feel stuck.

Sometimes what looks like anxiety, perfectionism, people-pleasing, or relationship struggles is actually an old protective pattern—one your mind or nervous system learned long ago.

Understanding why you hurt and actually resolving the wound aren’t always the same thing.

Through approaches like EMDR, IFS, somatic therapy, DBT, KAP, attachment work, and therapy intensives, we can go beyond insight and explore what may still need healing.

If you’re thinking, “I’ve done so much work. Why am I still here?” maybe you don’t need to try harder. Maybe you need a different path.

When we mistake feelings for emotions, we miss the oppotunity to get curious, identify the true emotion, work on it, and eventually rethink or release it altogether.

✨ Our beliefs shape our reality:

🔍 Intellectual parts have good reasons to be skeptical

🙇🏻‍♀️ Inner children have good reasons to feel vulnerable

👿 Even inner critics have a reason for their judgment…

💖 There’s enough space to sit with all of it. Healing happens when we work through it, not around it.

🛋️ Need more support? We are taking on new clients and group members! Reach out for a free intake.

There’s a difference between being accepted in therapy and feeling deeply understood.

For q***r people especially, an affirming therapist may still leave you feeling like you’re translating your identity, relationships, community, or experiences before you can even get to the thing you came to therapy to talk about.

The therapeutic relationship matters. Feeling safe enough to be honest, complicated, uncertain, messy, joyful, angry—or all of those at once—can change what becomes possible in the room.

We’re a q***r-run practice committed to care that makes room for the whole person.

If you’ve struggled to feel TRULY SEEN in therapy in the past, visit the link in our bio and choose "Schedule a Free Intake" to learn more about us or contact us.

There’s a particular kind of frustration that comes from understanding yourself really well…and still feeling stuck.

Insight can be an important part of therapy, but our emotional responses, nervous system patterns, and deeply learned ways of protecting ourselves don’t always change just because we understand where they came from.

That’s why we integrate approaches like EMDR, IFS, somatic work, DBT, and KAP—not just to understand what’s happening, but to help create opportunities for something different to happen.

If you’ve done therapy before and thought, “I get it—but now what?” you might not be done with therapy. You might just need a different path.

Sometimes “therapy didn’t work for me” actually means “that kind of therapy didn’t work for me.”

Different people—and different seasons of the same person’s life—can require very different things. Research across psychotherapy has also consistently pointed to the importance of the therapeutic relationship and responsiveness to the individual, not simply allegiance to one technique.

That’s part of why our therapists work integratively across approaches like EMDR, IFS, DBT, somatic therapy, KAP, attachment-based work, and more.

You don’t need to know which acronym you need before walking through the door. That’s something we can figure out together.

Finding an LGBTQIA+ affirming therapist shouldn’t just mean finding someone who is “accepting.” It should mean finding someone who understands that your identity, relationships, experiences, and mental health can intersect in complex ways—without making your identity the problem.

Research consistently shows that affirming care and supportive environments matter for LGBTQIA+ mental health. Therapy can offer a space to explore anxiety, trauma, relationships, identity, shame, or simply being human—without having to translate yourself first.

You deserve therapy where more of your energy can go toward healing, not explaining.

Ready to find a therapist who gets it? Click our link in bio and choose LGBTQ+ Affirmative Therapy.
