Ultimate Mobility Hey, I'm Brian. Ultimate Mobility is my system for revolutionizing Ultimate Frisbee training.

I work with Ultimate players and teams to improve mobility, reduce pain, and improve performance with well-rounded programs for long-term results. I am Brian Nevison, a personal trainer, mobility specialist, and athlete. Play, movement, and helping people make positive life changes are my greatest passions. I have 10+ years of experience training all kinds of people in one on one, group, and team settings. I’ve found that sharing my own experiences and mindsets, and reflecting upon them has allowed me to connect with and inspire people. This process of sharing has also helped me learn a lot about myself and others, which has enabled me to be a more effective trainer and motivator. I am always making an effort to broaden my reach (with this page, my website, and other social media) so that I can help, inspire, and benefit more people. It is my sincerest desire to provide content and services that promote long-term physical and mental wellness for as many as possible. I believe very strongly in the power of smiles and positivity, and try my very best to live life in a way that will help to spread such values – it is a constant and conscious daily effort to keep improving. At my very core, what I want to accomplish with my life is simply help people become happier and more fulfilled. My strengths lie in fitness and positivity/motivation, but I would explore any avenue to accomplish this goal. While I have led a truly wonderful life so far, I have experienced many injuries and chronic pain, as well as periods of emotional distress. For all of this I am grateful, as it allows me to better empathize and relate – at least to some degree – with more people. Furthermore, these experiences have implored me to learn and grow, and ignited my passion to enrich the lives of everyone I meet. Certifications/Education:

BS in Kinesiology from Penn State University

Functional Range Conditioning Mobility Specialist (FRCms)

Functional Range Assessment Specialist (FRAs)

Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS)

Certified Speed and Agility Coach (CSAC)

Try this for some extra spicy 90-90 hip mobility work.

If you’re an Ultimate Frisbee player, hip mobility is super important. How often do you put REAL effort into it?

🥏 Lateral Planting Drill for Ultimate Frisbee

Many players struggle with getting low and being consistently powerful with lateral or 90-ish degree cuts.

This ability is important for offense, but even more important to stay low and wide on defense so you’re more able to powerfully react.

Mobility and strength are important here too: if you can’t get down into a low, wide position, you’ve gotta work on that.

But once you can at least access it, spend time and energy there to get more comfortable and powerful.

In or out? It’s a tricky one, so I gave you a 2nd look with some slo-mo.

Comment with your rationale 👀

I’m not suggesting you can 100% tell from this clip but I wanna know what you think based on what you see.

And you can assume I stopped rotation on first contact…people love to use that as a cop-out 😉

🥏 This new technology is gonna be a game-changer for my educational training vids 🤩

Ultimate player? You’re gonna want to listen in (and watch).

Should I keep doing these new “Illustration Station” videos?

PS - yes, it’s my daughter’s. So I’m gonna need to get permission, or sneak it when she’s at daycare 🤫

Progressing into this position (over months) AND doing intense isometrics from here has helped my hips and knees a ton.

Happier, stronger hips & knees = better ability on the Ultimate field.

I still need to practice, strength train, sprint, and cut. But that practice & training is more effective because of my mobility work.

I can express my strength and power more easily when I can move easily and don’t have pain.

And I didn’t get to that point from foam rolling or easy stretching. Or JUST lifting or JUST practicing.

I got there from actively, intentionally working through the full ranges of my joints.

Making my body work HARD at my weakest points. Consistently for months and years.

There’s no quick fix for your immobility, hypermobility, or pain.

Mobility training, dosed and done in a way that fits your needs, can make a huge difference.

But it takes commitment. It will be humbling, eye-opening, and — in my opinion and experience — exceptionally rewarding.

Keys to my throwing workouts

👉 involve a lot of movement (not seen in the video is medium difficulty shuttle runs in between sets of throwing).

👉I add elements of fun: throw myself the disc from different angles, add in my favorite throws at weird angles (thumbers), some jumping/coordination, and throwing challenges/targets.

👉 lots of repetition. I balance the fun with “boring.” This session I probably did about 300-350 throws.

About 200 x 45-55 yard backhands/flicks with flat/slight OI focus. About 150 x short/medium touch throws.

In all, I get an aerobic + anaerobic training effect plus lots of focused throws, while still enjoying the process.

NOTE: I’m not a throwing expert or coach. I can do it, can teach it, but it’s not where I excel or have the most knowledge.

I HAVE improved significantly over the last few years because:

A) I’ve been healthier because of my emphasis on mobility/joint health: less shoulder, back, knee and achilles pain + better mobility = more consistent and high quality practice.

My body dimensions aren’t ideal, but increased mobility & health (and practice/improved mechanics) has allowed me to use more of my strength.

B) I prioritize throwing: I add some element of throwing into every single field workout.

C) As with mobility, I’m more mindful and focused in my practice.

Ultimately, feeling better physically has unlocked more consistent and effective practice.

Wanna feel better confidence in your body? DM me, I bet I can help :)

Ultimate Frisbee training advice that’s so simple it sounds unnecessary. But players still get it wrong.

Hip Mobility & Strength for Ultimate. Try these out and feel some stuff you haven’t felt before 😅

Some notes:

👉 First, the goal is to build control and strength in deep ranges of motion. I’m specifically targeting my hip and hamstrings muscles, and trying to get more comfortable in these positions.

So while I AM building a very specific strength, it’s not the same effect as lifting. Both are important.

👉 Second, while currently I can’t load up my legs as much as (can’t use a barbell or hold multiple dumbbells with my shoulder) these positions allow to me challenge my legs in a different way.

One strategy I’m using to increase the challenge is spend more time under tension and actively pull in and out of positions — I’m trying to make the exercise harder rather than just going through the range.

Try these out and lemme know what you think!
