Today, members of Legacy Keepers Nurse Honor Guard of Arkansas traveled to Maumelle, AR, to the home of Barbara Ann Tyson, RN, BSN.
Surrounded by family and friends gathered to Remember a Legacy.
Barbara Ann Tyson lived a life defined by service, discipline, and excellence.
In 1978, while continuing her education, Barbara joined the United States Army, where she served approximately two years and completed her military service at the rank of E-4. Her records also reflect that she earned the Sharpshooter Badge with the M-16 rifleโa small glimpse into the determination and precision that would follow her throughout her life.
After leaving the Army, Barbara returned to school and earned her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff in 1981, graduating with high honors.
Her nursing career would span decades and many roles. Barbara taught Critical Care Leadership at Jefferson Regional, served in management over the Cancer Center and OB/GYN department, worked as an oncology charge nurse, helped educate future nurses at UAPB, served as a Health Department Director in Georgia, and later traveled as a critical care nurse. She also cared for patients facing mental illness and addiction at Bridgeway Hospital and continued serving in healthcare later in her career.
Those who worked beside Barbara described her as consistent, thorough, professional, and unmistakably โold-school.โ That did not mean outdated. It meant she came from a generation of nursing where clinical judgment, discipline, accountability, professionalism, and doing the job well were simply expected.
Barbara also lived by a saying that seems to beautifully connect both her military service and her nursing career to her personal life: โIf you stay ready, you donโt have to get ready.โ She stayed ready to serve.
Barbara helped build the foundation upon which the next generation of nurses now stands.
Today, we honored Barbara Ann Tyson the Rigestered Nurse.
Sandra Tyson and Annetta Jackson sang beautifully together Going Up Yonder.
Outside her home the US Military Honor Guard honored the United States Army Veteran.
What an amazing celebration of Barbara!!
We left the family celebrating her beautiful life,
Filled with memories. Her shift is complete. Her legacy is not.
A heartfelt Thank you to her family and her beautiful children JetAime, Jeremy and Johnathan for allowing us to share this special day with you. You are in our prayers.
