Remember being told your iron levels were normal even though you felt like absolute garbage?
Might be time to revisit that, because ✨science✨ 🥹
The American Society of Hematology updated its guidelines for diagnosing iron deficiency. For certain higher-risk groups, including people with heavy periods, the ferritin cutoff is now 50 ng/mL or lower.
That means some people previously told their ferritin was normal may now meet the criteria for iron deficiency. Same result, new guidelines.
And you don’t have to be anemic to be iron deficient. Your iron stores can run low before your hemoglobin drops. That’s why checking ferritin matters, even when your hemoglobin is normal.
If this sounds like you, let’s look (or re-look) at your labs. 💕
Already know you have iron deficiency anemia and have recent labs? Our iron infusions are $260 per 200 mg dose, following provider review.
