When Lamoncia Ferguson wasn’t feeling good she went to a doctor, who examined her and placed an order for a mammogram. The mammogram was followed by a biopsy, which confirmed what she didn’t expect—Stage 4 metastatic breast cancer. Shocked and frightened, she came home to Houston for support from her mother and family. With her family’s history of breast cancer, the diagnosis was familiar yet devastating.
“I thought to myself, ‘I’m going to die,’ I was scared and didn’t know what was going to happen. And I knew I couldn’t leave my mom,” she recalls. “But the doctors and nurses at LBJ (Harris Health Lyndon B. Johnson) Hospital offered so much compassion.”
Ferguson calls her experience a “phenomenal testimony.” With family, faith and art, she continues her recovery and looks forward to spending more time with her loved ones.
