After almost 75 years serving our community, we have hard news: starting in 2027, West Side Pharmacy will no longer accept Humana plans. 💔
Here's why, in Humana's own numbers this year:
💊 15,973 prescriptions filled 💵 $726,631 paid to us by Humana 📦 $713,757 to buy those medications (NADAC*) ➡️ $12,874 left over, or 81 cents per prescription.
That 81 cents has to cover the bottle, the label, our staff, rent, utilities, insurance and taxes.
For comparison, Arkansas Medicaid pays pharmacies the drug cost plus $10.50 per prescription to cover dispensing. That's the state's own measure of a fair and reasonable cost to fill a prescription. Humana pays us 81 cents.
We testified, sent emails and fought for fair terms. Humana wouldn't negotiate. This decision was made for us, not by us.
How you can help:
1️⃣ On a Humana Medicare plan? Use Open Enrollment to switch to a 2027 plan we accept.
2️⃣ Join us in fighting for fair pharmacy pay at the state and federal level.
3️⃣ Keep loving, supporting and praying for West Side Pharmacy. 🙏

*NADAC (National Average Drug Acquisition Cost) is a benchmark published by the federal government (CMS). It's based on surveys of what retail pharmacies, from independents like us to big box stores as well across the country, actually pay to buy medications. It covers the drug only, none of the cost of dispensing it.
