🫀 THE EVIDENCE BEHIND OUR EDUCATION
At SITUS Foundation, one of our goals is to increase awareness of how reversed anatomy can affect routine medical care.
Our Right-Sided ECG Lead Placement educational initiative was created to raise awareness of an important consideration for patients with dextrocardia, including dextrocardia associated with situs inversus also known as Situs Inversus Totalis.
Published medical literature supports the use of modified ECG acquisition in patients with mirror-image dextrocardia. This may include mirror-image right-sided placement of the precordial leads (V1R–V6R) as well as modification of the limb leads.
Why does awareness matter?
❤️ Standard ECG placement in a patient with dextrocardia can produce characteristic abnormalities related to the heart's position.
🫀 Appropriate right-sided ECG acquisition can provide a tracing that better reflects the patient's cardiac anatomy.
⚕️ Published case literature has demonstrated the clinical importance of recognizing dextrocardia and obtaining a right-sided ECG, including during the evaluation of suspected acute cardiac events.

Education creates awareness. Awareness can improve preparedness.
Our Right-Sided ECG resource is intended to help patients, families, and healthcare professionals recognize that anatomical differences may require individualized clinical consideration.
