Ah, the perfect retirement. Sitting by the ocean all day, sipping cocktails, and watching time go by. This is what you've waited your whole life for, no? NO!

Let's be real. After 3 days, you'd be bored stiff. You didn't spend decades working hard to build your business just to languish away after your exit (even if you are in a beautiful location).

I am listening to Andrew Huberman’s new book, Protocols. I enjoy parts of it, like the exercise part, the nutrition stuff has a lot of garbage.

He is acting like a wellness influencer rather than an experienced clinician. For example, he claims without evidence that we need one gram of protein per pound of body weight. That simply isn’t true for most people. It also ignores the fact that different people have different protein requirements.

Don’t blindly trust wellness influencers. οΏΌ

I'm excited that our Retirement Medicineβ„’ program was featured on the prestigious Retirement Wisdom Podcast! Joe Casey and I discussed how family offices, dentists, pilots, and founders after the exit can enjoy a great next chapter. Here are the four pillars:

πŸ‹οΈ Health - The foundation of it all. You need strength, vitality, and mental clarity to make everything else possible
πŸ€— Relationships - Invest in genuine relationships now. They're just as important as your portfolio
🎾 Fun & Adventure - Taking that one big trip and then languishing away in front of the TV or YouTube won't cut it
πŸ™ Purpose & Meaning - You need a reason (or three!) to get out of bed in the morning. Want to start a new career, volunteer, launch a charity, or write a novel? Let's make it happen!

How healthy will you be when you retire? How to peer into your medical future:

πŸ’ͺ Grip Strength: So easy to test! Grip strength is a great predictor of all-cause mortality, cardiovascular mortality, and stroke. Test it with a quality handgrip dynamometer that you can find on Amazon

πŸ‘Ÿ Walking Speed: The faster you can walk, the lower your risk of mortality. Test it by measuring out 4 meters and having someone time how long it takes you to walk that far at your usual pace. The faster, the better.

πŸ’‰ Lab Tests: Ask your doctor about a complete cholesterol panel (not just LDL level), fasting insulin, fasting glucose, hs-CRP, and HbA1c levels. Consider genetic testing like ApoE for Alzheimer's disease risk.

🩡 Deep Social Connections: Seriously, meaningful social relationships keep you healthy. Those with deep social connections appear to have lower mortality and a reduced risk of heart disease and Alzheimer's.

Longevity evaluations are all part of a proper Retirement Medicine Program. You want to know how long you're likely to live, and what you can do to enjoy a happier, healthier, and adventurous retirement.

"Longevity isn't immortality. Plan accordingly"
- Dr. Gregory Charlop

Let me be philosophical for a moment. As someone who helps family offices, dentists, and airline pilots with longevity and retirement medicine, I appreciate a long, healthy life.

But that's not enough. We must enjoy our limited time on this Earth. Have fun with your friends, travel, be adventurous, learn, grow, and help others. It isn't just about the length of life, but the quality.

The world is growing more fragmented and precarious. Consider these recent, dangerous dilemmas:

πŸ”₯ Violent student protests in France. Support them, crush them, or wait it out?
πŸ€– The rise of super-intelligent AGI. Encourage rapid growth or slow it down?
πŸ–₯️ The AI trade dominating the American stock market. Lean in or hedge?
πŸͺ– The Iran war. Strike a deal, restart kinetic activity, or pursue economic strangulation?
🏦 Family offices and RIAs vs. AI. How can advisors stay relevant when computers can manage portfolios?
πŸŽ“ Education for an AI-powered future. How do we equip students to succeed when we don't know what skills (or careers) we'll need in the next decade?
πŸš€ NATO vs. Russia. Should Western Europe massively increase defense spending, start conscription, and prepare society for war now, or take a more measured approach?
πŸ’Š AI and medicine. Should doctors and patients lean into AI, or are we tarnishing the human side of healthcare without a proven benefit?

As a rare physician decision-making expert who supports family offices and the defense industry, I deal with this type of issue daily. For most of the world's growing crises, there are no easy answers. Yet, choosing wisely is more vital than ever.

Have questions? Corsica Military Solutions helps executives and defense officials manage high-stakes decisions in uncertainty.

Did you read yesterday's WSJ piece about the billionaire Kirsh Family Office? They're taking applications for financial advisors, etc. More wealthy entrepreneurs, young and old, are starting single-family offices (SFOs).

Regrettably, the WSJ piece only hints at the real and enduring value of family offices, and it ain't money management. The best SFOs take a one-stop shop approach. Modern holistic single-family offices are lifestyle managers:

πŸ›« Travel
πŸ’Š Health & Wellness
🏠 Household Management
⏳ Longevity
πŸ”οΈ Fun & Adventure
🌴 Retirement Planning

If SFOs exclusively focus on money and taxes, you're leaving value on the table.
