Wellness Tip of the Week:💧 Hydrate Before You Caffeinate! ☕

Before reaching for your morning coffee, start your day with a glass of water! After hours of sleep, your body needs hydration to support energy, focus, and overall health. Drinking water first helps you start the day hydrated before adding caffeine to your routine. Small habit, big benefits! 💙

🍫 Why Do You Crave Sweets? 🎃

Ever find yourself reaching for chocolate even when you’re not really hungry? You’re not lacking willpower! Sweet cravings are influenced by several factors:

🧠 Brain chemistry: Sweet foods activate your brain’s reward system, creating feelings of pleasure that make you want them again.

🍽️ Hunger: Skipping meals or not eating enough can leave your body looking for quick energy.

😴 Lack of sleep: Poor sleep can increase hunger and make sugary foods more appealing.

😩 Stress: Sometimes we crave sweets for comfort when we’re overwhelmed or tired.

👀 Your environment: Seeing a candy bowl at work can trigger a craving even when you aren’t hungry!

🚫 Too much restriction: Completely forbidding yourself from eating sweets can make you think about them even more.

🍬 THE TAKEAWAY: You don’t have to eliminate sweets to be healthy! Focus on balanced meals, adequate sleep, stress management, and mindful eating. Enjoy your favorite treats without guilt and remember that your overall habits matter far more than one piece of candy.

This October, enjoy the Halloween candy, but enjoy it intentionally! 🍁

Wellness isn’t about never eating the foods you love. It’s about creating healthy habits that leave room for them, too. ❤️

👀 Wellness Tip of the Week: Give Your Eyes a Break!

Between computers, phones, tablets, and other screens, our eyes spend a LOT of time focusing up close. If you find yourself experiencing tired, dry, irritated eyes, or even occasional headaches, your screen time may be playing a role.

Try the 20-20-20 rule:
Every 20 minutes, look at something at least 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

A few other simple ways to give your eyes some relief:

* 👁️ Remember to blink! We naturally blink less when concentrating on a screen, which can contribute to dry eyes.
* 💡 Check your lighting. Reduce glare and avoid working in a room that’s significantly brighter or darker than your screen.
* 📱 Adjust your screen. Keep your monitor about an arm’s length away and position it so you aren’t constantly looking up or down.
* 🚶 Take screen breaks. When possible, stand up, walk around, or switch to a task that doesn’t require looking at a screen.
* 🌙 Give your eyes a break before bed. Limiting screen use before bedtime can also support better sleep.

This week’s challenge: Set a reminder on your phone or computer to practice the 20-20-20 rule throughout your workday. Your eyes will thank you!

🍂 YOUR OCTOBER WELLNESS CHALLENGE

Fall is here and it’s the perfect time for a fresh start!

October brings cooler temperatures, beautiful fall scenery and plenty of opportunities to focus on your health and well-being. Instead of trying to completely overhaul your routine, choose a few small habits you can realistically stick with throughout the month.

🍁 Choose 3. Make Them Count.

Pick three habits from the list below and make them your focus for October:

☐ Move More
Aim for at least 30 minutes of movement each day. Walking, strength training, stretching, group exercise classes and recreational activities all count!

☐ Hydrate
Keep your water bottle nearby and make hydration a priority throughout the day.

☐ Eat More Color
Add an extra serving of fruits or vegetables to your meals and snacks.

☐ Prioritize Sleep
Create a consistent bedtime routine and aim for 7–9 hours of sleep each night.

☐ Get Outside
Take advantage of the cooler fall weather. Go for a walk, explore a trail or simply spend some time outdoors.

☐ Take Time to Unwind
Set aside a few minutes each day to relax, read, practice deep breathing, enjoy a hobby or simply slow down.

☐ Try Something New
Try a new workout, exercise class, healthy recipe or activity you’ve been curious about.

🎃 Your October Goal

You don’t have to be perfect. You just have to be consistent.

Small choices repeated over time can become lasting habits. Choose three areas that fit your life, check in with yourself throughout the month and celebrate your progress along the way!

🏈 Wellness Tip of the Week: Make Your Tailgate a Little Healthier!

Football season means game days, good friends, and plenty of snacks! You don’t have to skip the tailgate favorites to make healthier choices. Try swapping in a few lighter options that are still full of flavor:

🥕 Veggie cups with ranch or hummus – Easy to grab and packed with crunch.
🍗 Grilled chicken skewers – A protein-packed alternative to fried wings.
🌶️ Turkey or lean-beef chili – Warm, filling, and loaded with protein and veggies.
🥑 Guacamole with veggies or whole-grain tortilla chips – A heart-healthy dip with satisfying fats.
🧀 Caprese skewers – Fresh mozzarella, tomatoes, and basil make an easy, colorful appetizer.
🍿 Lightly seasoned popcorn – A simple whole-grain snack that’s perfect for munching throughout the game.
🍠 Sweet potato fries – Try them baked or air-fried instead of deep-fried.

The goal isn’t to make game day “perfect.” Just add a few nutrient-packed options alongside your favorite football foods. A little balance can go a long way! 🏈💪🏼

🌿 Wellness Tip of the Week: Don’t Let Fall Allergies Sneak Up on You!

Cooler weather may be on the way, but so are seasonal allergens! 🍂 Ragweed pollen can remain high into the fall, potentially triggering sneezing, congestion, itchy eyes, and that lovely “why does my face feel stuffy?” feeling.

If you’re sensitive to fall allergies, keep an eye on pollen levels, shower after spending time outdoors, change clothes when you come inside, and keep windows closed when pollen counts are high.

Enjoy the cooler weather - just don’t let the pollen crash the party! 😂🍁

🌾Why Fiber Deserves More Attention!

We hear a LOT about protein, vitamins, and healthy fats, but fiber deserves a little more love, too!

Fiber is a type of carbohydrate our bodies don’t fully digest, and it plays an important role in overall health. It can help:

🥦 Support healthy digestion and regularity
❤️ Support heart health and healthy cholesterol levels
🩸 Help regulate blood sugar
😋 Keep you feeling fuller longer
🦠 Feed beneficial bacteria in your gut

You can find fiber naturally in fruits, vegetables, beans, lentils, whole grains, nuts, and seeds.

💡 Wellness tip: If you want to increase your fiber intake, do it gradually and drink plenty of water. Your digestive system will thank you!

This week, try adding one extra fiber-rich food to your day. A handful of berries, some beans, a serving of vegetables, or choosing whole grains are all simple ways to start.

Don’t just ask, “Where’s the protein?” Ask, “Where’s the fiber?” too! 🌱
