Kindly: if you’re uncomfortable because you don’t know, or were never taught, set your ego aside and refer.

It’s okay not to have all the answers.

It’s never okay to gaslight someone.

“Why does my reflux keep coming back?”

Here’s what the research says:
most reflux is a barrier problem.
The valve at the bottom of the esophagus relaxes at the wrong times, and the esophagus is slower to clear what comes up.
Acid is part of the story, but not the whole story.

Then we look for the root cause in the individual patient. H. pylori, a common stomach infection guidelines recommend testing for and treating. SIBO, which is more common with long-term acid blocker use.
And in some patients, symptoms that come from too little stomach acid rather than too much.

Two people with identical heartburn can need completely different plans.
