Another hiccup for SM Energy and the Draco OGDP: after a similar denial from the ECMC Permitting group on October 1, an updated October 19 review still finds the application "does not meet the minimum standard and requires additional work to address the concerns identified above." Staff found pending permits and existing wells the company left out, mistakes in the land descriptions, and contradictions within the application itself. If the existing pattern holds, it'll be a 2-3 weeks before we'll see another permitting review for Draco.

We were all lied to. They are literally gaslighting us.

Colorado Rising board president Dar-Lon Chang transitioned from being a Ph.D. research engineer at ExxonMobil for 15 years and he shared his story of being deceived by Big Oil in Boulder during the Suncor v Boulder press conference earlier this month.

Dar-Lon advocates for whistleblower protections and a just transition for oil and gas workers to move into clean energy jobs.

A different kind of gathering.

Presence over performance.
Conversation over consumption.
Music, art, movement, and a little bit of magic in the room.

On Friday, October 30, we’re gathering at Urban Sanctuary in historic Five Points for the second a Community Listening Project — an evening designed to slow down, listen closely, and experience what happens when artists, storytellers, civic voices, and community share the same room.

Hosted by DJ Abi C (Abi Clark )— Denver host and producer of The Morning Set and Thursday Night Jazz Odyssey on KUVO JAZZ Public Radio, and the groove-bringing force known for taking the sounds she loves out into the wild. Abi C knows how to create a room you can feel before you even realize you’re listening.

Sunstoney -( sunstoney )joins us fresh off the release of her new album — a soulful exploration of liberation, becoming, and remembering that everything is fleeting. We’ll hear the music and chat with her about the journey behind it.

Steph Lindsey- ( steph lindsey )whose beautiful artistic practice explores culture, identity, race, family, and place, brings her powerful visual perspective into the room.

Moringa Infusions - ( Moringa Infusions )with Ayana Powell will be serving thoughtful, slow-infused botanical elixirs made with whole ingredients.

Colorado Rising -( Colorado Rising )joins us as our civic voice, bringing education and conversation around climate, injustice, and the issues shaping our communities.

And because this is an experience, not just an event…

COME DRESSED FOR THE EVE đź–¤

Inspired by Ryan Coogler’s Sinners, we’re leaning into Black Southern gothic, juke-joint glamour, vampire mystique, and Black dandyism.

Think rich textures. Sharp silhouettes. Old-school glamour. Statement hats.

Not a costume. A mood.

Your ticket includes the evening + a complimentary Urban Sanctuary class pass.

The fossil fuel industry knew that continuing to burn fossil fuels would lead to globally catastrophic events. They continued lying to the public, buying politicians and entities to increase their profits while endangering and silencing our communities. But we won’t back down, and we won’t be silenced.

Bodhi Cabeen is Ngabe-Bugle, Five Tribes, Black, and Celtic. We are honored to know Bodhi and acknowledge his contributions to the climate movement, the Denver Indigenous community, and society. Bodhi spoke at the youth panel at last year’s Youth Unity Rising Summit, and the wisdom he holds at such a young age is remarkable.

Everything we’re working towards is for the next 7 generations. Thank you, Bodhi, for this reminder. 💙🌎

On the same day that the U.S. Supreme Court hears oral arguments in the City and County of Boulder’s climate deception lawsuit against ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy, Boulder County residents impacted by the climate crisis and local organizations will rally in support of the case and urge the U.S. Supreme Court to allow Boulder to have its day in court with Big Oil.

The City and County of Boulder, Colorado, are suing ExxonMobil and Suncor Energy to hold them accountable for concealing the dangers of their fossil fuel products and to make them pay for the resulting local climate damages, including more destructive wildfires, droughts, and extreme heat. Last year, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled that Boulder’s case should proceed toward trial.

Now, Big Oil wants the U.S. Supreme Court to stop the case before the people of Boulder can present evidence against Exxon and Suncor. Tomorrow, October 5, the U.S. Supreme Court will hear ExxonMobil and Suncor’s arguments to escape trial — and Boulder County residents and groups are gathering to demand accountability.

Let's be there to show Boulder County residents that we stand behind them!

Our community packed into Patagonia for the Boulder premiere of Thirsting for a Future, a new documentary from filmmaker Christi Bode and Moxiecran Media exploring K-12 climate and water education across our state. Thank you to everyone who came out to watch, connect, and be part of the conversation!

We were especially proud to see our annual Youth Unity Rising Summit featured in the film, alongside our own Giselle Arroyo, Climate & Youth Justice Director. Seeing Colorado’s youth-led climate movement represented on screen, in a room full of the neighbors and organizers who make that movement real, was a genuinely special moment for our community.

After the screening, the evening turned into exactly the kind of gathering we love hosting: a lively panel conversation featuring youth leaders from our new Sustaining Tomorrow Youth Council. A huge thank-you to panelists Evan Gu, Megan Liao, Muriel Soutiere, Mia TallBull, Allie Morton, Lauren Poole, and Erin Greenwood, along with filmmaker Christi Bode, for sharing their perspectives and fielding questions from the audience. Hearing directly from the young people leading this work, in their own words, is what made the night unforgettable.

“How we prepare youth for today’s reality will shape tomorrow. Climate and water education plays a powerful role for K-12 students, yet access to these experiences remains uneven across our state,” said Christi Bode, Producer at Moxiecran Media. “This film highlights the inspiring ways educators, parents, and community organizations are stepping up to bridge that gap and turn climate anxiety into meaningful, hands-on action.”

Documentary highlights and featured stories include:
â—Ź Cross-State Watershed Connections: Following an innovative Watershed Pen Pal program that connects students in urban Aurora with peers in the Roaring Fork Valley, exposing students to the journey water takes across the Continental Divide to Front Range taps.
â—Ź Indigenous Ecological Knowledge: Highlighting Indigenous perspectives and cultural connections to water in the Four Corners region through dialogue with neighbors from the Southern Ute Indian Tribe, Ute Mountain Ute Tribe and Navajo Nation.
â—Ź Youth-Led Civic Action: Demonstrating how high schoolers translate classroom science into real-world civic impact through initiatives like student-designed no-idling campaigns to improve local air quality.
● Overcoming Institutional Barriers: Addressing the real-world challenges educators face—including tight instructional schedules, funding shortfalls, and local political pushback—and showing how community organizations fill critical educational gaps.

Throughout Fall 2026, Thirsting for a Future will screen in theaters, school auditoriums, statewide conferences, and community centers across Colorado, accompanied by interactive post-film discussions and youth leadership forums designed to activate local solutions. It will air on Rocky Mountain PBS on November 8, 2026 at 5:00 pm.

On August 30, we had our first meeting with the “STYC Council,”: where local youth identify issues affecting their community and take action through education, community-driven solutions, and advocacy! In our first meeting, everyone got to know each other and shared about pressing environmental and mental health issues circulating in Colorado’s environment and among youth.

So many insightful comments and stories were brought up today: a highlight of the day was the Play-Doh activity where youth created visual representations of environmental issues. Council members created representations such as an oil spill in a lake on fire, lungs to represent air pollution, and a dried-up lake representing drought.

We’re thrilled for what’s to come, and for the momentum we’ll build together! All the youth in this council are so inspiring; the future is looking bright for Colorado!
