Ever wondered how occupational therapy students learn to break down every movement? 🐴✨
During this hands-on lab, OTA students conducted an activity analysis while grooming a horse. Activity analysis is at the core of OT practice: breaking down an everyday task to understand the precise physical, cognitive, and sensory demands it requires.
During horse brushing, students evaluate:
Motor & Movement: Shoulder range of motion and strength, motor planning, grip strength, core stability, and bilateral coordination.
Sensory Processing: Tactile feedback from the brush, weight distribution, and rhythmic motion.
Cognitive & Executive Functions: Sequencing steps, safety awareness around large animals, and sustained attention.
Understanding these demands allows future OT practitioners to adapt activities, rehabilitate injury, and promote independence for their clients.
