Quick question: who is the hardest person for you to say no to?

Not the stranger with the clipboard. The specific person. The one whose name pops up and your thumb is already typing “of course.”

That person tells you a lot. Usually it’s someone whose disappointment once cost you something, or someone who reminds your body of them. Notice the person, and notice what your body does when their name shows up.

You don’t have to do anything with it yet. Just notice.

The full breakdown of what’s happening, plus five steps to catch the yes before it leaves your mouth, is on the blog. Link in bio. (You don’t have to sign up for anything.)

Cold plunges are great. They’re not going to help you mid-meeting when your chest gets tight and you have to keep talking anyway.

The skills that got you here aren’t the problem. It’s the survival tax you’re paying on them.

Independence is a gift. Hyperindependence is exhausting.
Sensitivity is a superpower. Hypervigilance is a full-time job.
High standards build careers. Perfectionism destroys the person holding them.

You’re not choosing between successful and healed. You’re choosing between bleeding for it and not.

I’m not here to be your guru or give you a checklist to complete so you can be a good regulation student and fix your life.

I’m here to say here’s some science, here’s some ancient wisdom, and here are some tangible and accessible ways to apply it to your own self and your own life.

Grateful to Katie Hanlon for asking excellent questions and capturing the human essence.

Here’s to LIVING our lives instead of managing them! Check out Everyday Nervous System Regulation with the link in my bio or anywhere books are sold!

You’re not moody. You’re permeable.

You’ve spent your whole life feeling everything in every room. Knowing when something’s off before anyone says a word. Carrying tension that wasn’t yours and not realizing it until hours later.

But no one told you that your nervous system was doing exactly what it was designed to do—reading the room and adjusting to survive it.

The problem is you never learned how to discharge what you absorbed. How to stay anchored in your own state instead of getting hijacked by everyone else’s.

That’s a skill. And it changes everything—not just for you, but for every room you walk into.

The worst part isn’t the feeling.

It’s not trusting your own read on it.

You’re scanning. You’re sensing. You picked up on things as a kid that adults missed—or wouldn’t admit to. That sensitivity kept you safe.

But now you don’t know when it’s signal and when it’s noise. You don’t know if you’re perceptive or paranoid. You don’t know if you should trust your gut or override it.

So you stay stuck in the loop. Checking. Questioning. Running the situation back in your head for the fiftieth time trying to figure out what’s real.

The answer isn’t in your head. It’s in your body. And it starts with learning how your brain distorts what you see and using your body to find clarity.

You already know it’s not working.

You’ve known for a while.

But leaving means admitting you were wrong. Means grieving the future you built in your head. Means sitting with the fact that all that effort, all that hoping, all that trying — it didn’t make it work.

So you stay. Not because it’s good. Because leaving hurts more than tolerating.

That’s not loyalty. That’s loss aversion. Your brain is literally wired to avoid losses more than it pursues gains. Which means you’ll keep paying into something dead just to avoid the pain of closing the account.

But here’s the thing you’re not letting yourself see:

You’re already losing. You’re just doing it slowly. You’re losing time. Energy. The version of yourself that still believes something better is possible.

The sunk cost isn’t coming back. The only question is whether you keep sinking.

The worst part isn’t the pattern.

It’s realizing you’ve been playing a slot machine your whole life and calling it love. Calling it ambition. Calling it “I just care a lot.”

You were trained.

And now you get to untrain it.

Which sounds simple until you’re sitting with the urge to check and you don’t. Until you’re in the middle of the pull and you name it instead of act on it. Until the chaos doesn’t come and your body doesn’t know what to do with the quiet.

That’s the work.

Not understanding why you do it.

Interrupting it while you’re doing it.

Sometimes we hear a word or reference so much that it seems to lose its meaning. Everyone is talking about the nervous system but you may just be picturing something happening in your brain that causes feelings of anxiety sometimes.

That ain’t it.

The nervous system is a living, breathing electrical communication system. It is wild and beautiful and powerful and YOU are the programmer.
