I’ve been a little quieter around here lately.

I’m back home in Maine, spending time with people I love, enjoying familiar places, and taking a break from my usual routine.

And I’ve caught myself thinking about all the things I “should” be doing. The work waiting for me, the content I haven’t created, the things I could be getting ahead on.

But then I remember what I’ve been sharing here lately.

Making room for myself.
Honoring my capacity.
Being present.
Allowing myself to simply be human.

And there’s something beautifully fitting about actually living those lessons instead of constantly creating content about them.

Birth is unpredictable. Things can change, plans can shift, and sometimes decisions need to be made that you weren’t expecting. But that doesn’t mean your voice stops mattering.

One of the most important things you can do during pregnancy is educate yourself about your options. And one of my favorite tools for doing that is the BRAIN acronym.

B – Benefits: What are the benefits of this recommendation?
R – Risks: What are the potential risks?
A – Alternatives: Are there other options?
I – Intuition: What is my gut telling me?
N – Nothing: What happens if we wait or do nothing?

Informed consent isn’t about refusing medical care or questioning every recommendation. It’s about having the information you need to make decisions that feel right for you, with an understanding of the potential benefits and risks.

You can trust your medical team and still ask questions. You can change your mind. You can advocate for yourself while remaining open to a change of plans.

An empowered birth isn’t necessarily one that goes according to plan. It’s one in which you are informed, supported, and treated as an active participant in your own care.

Because at the end of the day, this is your body, your birth, and your experience. You deserve to have a voice in it.

There’s room for both.

For the joy and the grief. The gratitude and the desire for change. The love and the boundaries. The person you were and the person you’re becoming.

The human experience was never meant to be one thing at a time.

What if feeling lost is actually part of finding your way?

I’m learning that I don’t need to have everything figured out to trust that I’m moving in the right direction.

Sometimes growth looks like letting go of what once felt familiar, making decisions that feel fu***ng uncomfortable, or allowing life to unfold without knowing what comes next.

There’s a certain kind of peace that comes with no longer forcing things to fit, trusting yourself enough to embrace change, and recognizing that not everything is meant to come alongside you.

I don’t know exactly what the next chapter looks like, and for once, I’m not in a hurry to figure it out. But I do know I’d rather be uncertain about where I’m going than keep choosing places, people, and versions of myself I’ve already outgrown.

Duality is such a beautiful and difficult part of being human.

I’ve been sitting with this a lot lately. The realization that I can hold two seemingly opposite feelings at the same time without needing to decide which one is right.

I can be grateful and still want things to change. I can feel relief and still experience sadness. I can love something deeply and still recognize that it asks a lot of me.

For a long time, I think I’ve felt the need to make sense of my emotions by choosing one over the other.

But I’m learning that one feeling doesn’t invalidate another.

Maybe growth isn’t about resolving every contradiction within ourselves. Maybe it’s about becoming more comfortable with the complexity of being human.

Making room for all of it. Even the messy parts.
