It’s time to get to know another member of the Community Care team! This month we’re featuring Katie, a Family Care care manager celebrating 15 years serving our members! See her responses below.

▪️ When did you first know that you wanted to pursue a career in this field and how did you get started?

I’ve just always wanted to help people. I originally wanted to work with at risk youth, but instead I found a job out of college working in a day service. I ended up in case management because a former co-worker recruited me to apply for a job where she was working.

▪️ What do you think is the most important skill someone in your position needs to have?

Patience and flexibility. Your day is never the same. If you can make your members’ day better that will make your day run smoother. Also building relationships with your members and providers. Many times, going above and beyond even just a little bit, can often prevent small problems turning into big problems.

▪️ What advice would you give to someone considering a career in long-term care?

Lead with compassion and patience. Long Term Care can be emotionally demanding. Be prepared to build real relationships. You’re not just providing services - you’re getting to know members, their families, their histories and what makes them feel valued.
Remember little things matter. A conversation, a smile, advocating for someone, or simply taking time to listen can make a huge difference in someone’s day. Learn to advocate. Don’t be afraid to speak up when something doesn’t seem right.

▪️ How would you describe Community Care to someone considering working here?

Community Care is a place where you have the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of members and their families while working alongside a team that cares about providing quality support and services.

▪️ When you’re not at work, what are you most likely to be doing?

Watching tv, hanging out with my daughter, friends or doing a DIY project

▪️ What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

Creative, compassionate, resilient

▪️ What is something you can’t live without?

My phone, daughter, and friends
