When our community comes together, they help make sure no one has to navigate Parkinson’s alone.

We’re so thankful to Discovery Commons North Shore in Glendale for supporting Wisconsin Parkinson Association through their Summer Extravaganza & Fundraiser in August!

Jill was honored to accept the donation on behalf of WPA, and we all appreciate everyone who helped make this fundraiser such a success! Your kindness and generosity help WPA connect more people across Wisconsin with the programs, resources and support they need.

We’re so glad to have Discovery Commons North Shore as part of our community!

Medication Timing Matters

With Parkinson’s medication, when you take it can matter almost as much as remembering to take it.

This week on Pearls for Parkinson’s, we're talking about “Medication Timing Matters.”

We cover keeping levodopa on schedule, when protein may affect how well it works, why iron deserves some attention, and how tracking when your medication kicks in and wears off can help your provider better understand your day.

Small changes in awareness can help you get more from your medication routine: https://pearlsforparkinsons.buzzsprout.com/

You can find both the Parkinson's EmPower Talks and Pearls for Parkinson's podcasts and resources on your favorite podcast app, WPA website and social media channels or subscribe to WPA's YouTube channel to get notified.

A diagnosis of young-onset Parkinson’s can bring a lot to navigate, from family life and careers to questions about what lies ahead. Sometimes, it helps to connect with people who understand because they’re navigating some of the same things.

At our Virtual Young Onset Parkinson's Support Group, you’ll find a welcoming space to share your experiences, ask questions, listen, learn and get to know others who understand the journey. There’s no expectation to have all the answers or even know what to ask. You’re welcome just as you are.

And when you need a little extra support, Young-Onset Parkinson’s mentors are here to walk alongside you.

Parkinson’s is about more than movement. And sometimes, the symptoms that are harder to talk about are the ones that can leave you with the most questions.

At our November Brookfield Parkinson’s Support Group, we’ll talk about hallucinations and delusions related to Parkinson’s disease.

You may be wondering:
• What do these symptoms look like?
• Why do they happen?
• How might they affect someone with Parkinson’s or their care partner?
• When should you bring them up with your healthcare provider?

We’re pleased to welcome Martha T. McGraw, MD, Physician Lead with the Movement Disorders Center for Neurodegenerative Disease at Central DuPage Hospital/Northwestern Medicine, who will help us explore these questions and more.

📅 Thursday, November 5
🕑 2:00–3:00 p.m.
📍 Brookfield Public Library, Community Room
1900 N Calhoun Road, Brookfield

This meeting is free and open to people navigating Parkinson’s, loved ones and care partners.

Come with questions, come to listen, or simply come spend some time with people who understand. No registration required. We’d love to have you with us.

Thank you to Acadia for sponsoring this meeting.

When Parkinson’s Gets Worse

A sudden increase in Parkinson’s symptoms doesn't always mean the disease has progressed.

Illness, infection, dehydration, medication disruptions, and other medical problems can temporarily make Parkinson’s symptoms much more noticeable.

This week on Pearls for Parkinson’s, we talk about “When Parkinson’s Gets Worse” and why a sudden change should make us investigate further.

🎧 Learn what to watch for and why getting back to baseline may start with finding the underlying cause: https://pearlsforparkinsons.buzzsprout.com/
