We're delighted to spotlight Kristi Sills, who is a Program Manager from our California crew!

Kristi joined Mains’l as a Direct Support Professional in January of last year and was promoted to Service Coordinator just 90 days later. Fifteen months after her first day, she stepped into her role as Program Manager, where she now leads crews, supports staff development, and helps create positive outcomes amongst those she works with.

This National Disability Employment Awareness Month, our partners at Far Northern Regional Center are sharing the stories of what happens when people like Michael have the right supports in place to reach their professional goals. We first shared Michael’s story earlier this spring, about reaching his hopes and dreams by working for California State Parks at Shasta State Historic Park.

Every Saturday in Chico, the Mains'l Merry Market Makers Club gets together from 10am to 2pm to upcycle, create, and work on personal art projects.

No two sessions are the same, with our makers creating everything from decorative art to home and garden pieces, all to sell at community markets in and around the local area.

We invite our friends, family, and neighbors in Chico and the surrounding areas to come see the work of over 70 local artists during the Chico Art Center annual Open Studios Art Tour!

The annual tour begins this Friday, October 2, with an opening reception from 5pm to 7pm at the Chico Art Center, 450 Orange St. The Tour then officially starts next weekend, October 10 and 11, and continues the following weekend, October 17 and 18, from 10am to 5pm each day.

Every year, the Open Studios Art Tour celebrates the creative spirit of our region and is a wonderful chance to view incredible art and meet the local artists behind it, including artists from our own Mains'l community, who will be showing their work at Mains'l Innovations, located at 1015 Mangrove Ave in Chico!

A couple of weeks ago, members of the Mains’l crew, Kayla (Team Captain), Anna, Heather, Terra, Ian, and Sophia, laced up and showed up for a great cause at the Thumbs Up for Mental Health Run, Walk & Bike 5K and 10K!

Thank you to our amazing crew for representing Mains’l and supporting an important mission: promoting mental health awareness and su***de prevention. Thumbs Up provides valuable peer support, bereavement outreach, youth programs, and more to help build stronger, more connected communities.

Congratulations to Thumbs Up founder and executive director Katie Shatusky on a fantastic event, and thank you to everyone who participated, volunteered, donated, and helped make the day such a success!

We need your help! The federal government is asking for public comments about proposed changes to the Head Start program. Head Start is a government program that helps young children learn, grow, and get ready for school.

For many children with disabilities, it is also a path to comprehensive screenings, supports, and services that can change the course of their lives. If these changes go through, it would become easier to suspend or expel children whose disabilities affect their behavior. It would also be harder for families to get the support and services their kids need.
