Brain Balance Centers Brain Balance is a non-medical program that helps build focus, behavior, and life skills.

At Brain Balance of Brooklyn, we help kids, teens and adults who struggle with focus, behavior, learning, and anxiety find calm, success, and confidence. Our holistic, brain-based program supports individuals with ADHD, autism, sensory processing, auditory processing, and academic and executive functioning challenges. Using a brain-based, drug-free approach, we improve the root systems that influence learning, executive functioning, and stress management. The Brain Balance program is proven to strengthen brain connections through sensory, motor, and cognitive activities, helping children, teens, and adults improve attention, mood, and comprehension—so they can succeed at home, in school, and in life.

What we see is only part of the picture. 🧠 ADHD can show up in ways that are easy to notice, like distractibility, fidgeting, interrupting, or forgetting homework.

But underneath those behaviors may be challenges with working memory, task initiation, time awareness, impulse control, emotional regulation, and organization.

A child who “won’t start” may be struggling with task initiation. A child who constantly loses things may be having difficulty with working memory and organization. And big reactions may sometimes reflect challenges with emotional regulation.

When we look beyond the behavior, we can better understand the skills a child may be struggling with—and how to support them more meaningfully. 💚

This ADHD Awareness Month, let’s look deeper, not just at what a child is doing, but at what may be making it difficult.

If you’re noticing challenges with attention, behavior, learning, or emotional regulation, we can help you take a closer look at your child’s strengths and areas of difficulty.

ADHD medication can be an important tool for managing symptoms, but ADHD can affect much more than attention alone. 🧠

Learning, emotional regulation, executive function, and everyday functioning can all be part of the bigger picture. That’s why supporting a child with ADHD may mean looking beyond symptom management and considering how different areas of development work together.

Every child is different, and the right approach may include a combination of supports based on their individual needs.

Balance is about more than staying on your feet, it requires the brain and body to work together.

For teens with ADHD, activities that challenge balance and coordination can provide an engaging way to practice body awareness, motor control, and sustained attention while getting the body moving.

Whether it’s balancing on one foot, navigating an obstacle course, or combining movement with another task, these activities add an extra challenge that gets both the brain and body involved.

This ADHD Awareness Month, it’s a great reminder that supporting the ADHD brain can go beyond what happens at a desk.

Thank you to the parents and caregivers who joined us at Brooklyn Heights Library for an ADHD Awareness Month conversation on attention, focus, and regulation.

Sarah led an open discussion around how attention develops, the challenges families may notice as demands increase, and practical ways to support children at home and school.

While parents talked, children enjoyed arts and crafts with our BB team. We're grateful to Brooklyn Public Library for creating the space for a thoughtful community conversation.

Years later, where can a Brain Balance journey lead?

We caught up with former Brain Balance student Erik to hear where life has taken him. Today, he’s studying mechanical engineering and has interned with Junior Motorsports.

Erik originally came to Brain Balance after being diagnosed with ADHD and looking for another option when medication wasn’t working for him. Looking back, he remembers a point toward the end of his program when something began to feel different: he noticed he could stay with a task instead of moving on after just a few minutes.

His story is a reminder that progress may not always happen in one big “aha” moment. Sometimes, it’s something you recognize when you look back and realize just how far you’ve come.

This ADHD Awareness Month, we’re proud to share stories from former students and celebrate where their journeys have taken them.

Moving to a steady beat asks the participant to listen, coordinate each step, maintain the pattern, and stay in sync as they move.

Rhythm-based activities can challenge foundational skills like timing, coordination, focus, and sequencing — skills that support how we move, learn, follow directions, and manage everyday tasks.

At Brain Balance, activities like this are part of a broader, multimodal approach that combines sensory, motor, and cognitive work in a structured progression. Exercises are repeated and progressively advanced to challenge foundational skills across multiple areas, rather than focusing on just one symptom or skill.

What we eat can play an important role in supporting brain health. 🧠🥗

For individuals with ADHD, nutrition is just one piece of the bigger picture, but choosing nutrient-dense foods can help provide the nutrients the brain and body need to function at their best.

🐟 Salmon provides omega-3 fatty acids
🫐 Blueberries are rich in antioxidants
🥬 Spinach provides magnesium and iron
🍫 Dark chocolate contains flavonoids
🥚 Eggs are a source of choline and B vitamins

Think adding in, not making every meal perfect. Small, consistent choices can help support a balanced diet and overall brain health.

Save this for your next grocery run!

What we see on the surface doesn't always tells the whole story.

Needing constant reminders, losing track of time, forgetting what to pack, or struggling to move from one activity to the next can involve skills like working memory, organization, time awareness, and shifting attention. These challenges can affect children, teens and adults.

During ADHD Awareness Month, we're looking beyond attention to better understand the skills that can make everyday routines harder - and the kinds of support that may help.

Why might some children with ADHD seem to crave sugar? 🧠🍭

In this video, Dr. Goldenberg, Center Director and Owner of Brain Balance Center of Norwalk, CT, breaks down the connection between sugar, dopamine, and the brain, and why understanding what’s happening beneath the surface matters.

During ADHD Awareness Month, we’re taking a closer look at the factors that can influence attention, motivation, and behavior.

The more we understand the brain, the better we can understand the child.

Rain didn’t dampen the fun at the Atlantic Antic! ☔️💚

We loved being out in the Brooklyn community, meeting so many families and sharing a little of what we do at Brain Balance. From pegboards and brain body exercises, to ball squeezes and spinning the wheel, there was plenty to try!

And the team joined in on the fun with some face painting too. 🎨

During ADHD Awareness Month, it was a great opportunity to connect with our community and start more conversations around attention, regulation and the brain body connection. 🧠

A big thank you to Lead Coach Alice and Coaches Isana, Justin, Jasper and Shania for bringing the energy, even through the rain! 💚

Three everyday habits can make a difference in supporting an ADHD brain. 🧠

Dr. Teresa Fuller, integrative holistic pediatrician, breaks down three areas parents can focus on: movement, protein at breakfast, and quality sleep.

These simple foundations can help support the brain processes involved in attention, learning, memory, and overall well-being.

Watch to hear why each one matters, and how you can incorporate them into your child’s routine.

Support the need behind the behavior.

When a child with ADHD struggles with an everyday task, consequences alone may not teach the skill they’re having difficulty with.

Sometimes, they need a different kind of support: a timer, a reminder, a smaller first step, or simply some help getting started.

This ADHD Awareness Month, we’re encouraging parents to look beyond the behavior and ask: What support does my child need right now?

Because understanding what’s behind the struggle can change how we respond. 💙

What does sleep have to do with focus and attention? 😴🧠

A lot.

Sleep supports the brain processes involved in attention, memory, learning and emotional regulation. When children aren’t getting enough quality sleep, it can be harder to stay focused, follow directions, manage emotions and get through everyday demands.

In this week’s Parent Q&A, we’re talking about why sleep matters and how it can show up in focus, attention and regulation during the day.

When a child has trouble sitting still or staying focused in class, there can be more going on beneath the surface. 🧠

Posture, balance, coordination, core stability and body awareness all play a role in how comfortably the body can manage the demands of the school day.

At Brain Balance, movement based activities are intentionally built into the program to challenge these skills and strengthen brain body connections.

Sometimes it helps to look beyond the behavior and ask what the body and brain may be working harder to manage.
