Thinking About Laser Tattoo Removal? Here’s What You Should Know ✨
Tattoo removal is a process—not a one-and-done treatment.
One of the biggest questions we hear is: “How many sessions will it take?” Unfortunately, there isn’t one number that applies to everyone. Every tattoo and every person responds differently.
Several things can affect how quickly a tattoo fades:
• Location matters. Tattoos on the hands, fingers, feet, and ankles can be slower and more difficult to clear because they’re farther from the heart and may have less efficient circulation and lymphatic clearance. Tattoos on areas with better circulation may respond faster.
• Newer tattoos can be stubborn. Fresh, heavily saturated ink may take longer than an older tattoo that has already naturally faded over the years. A new tattoo also needs to be completely healed before laser treatments begin.
• Ink color matters. Black and other dark pigments generally respond best to laser treatment, while certain colors can be more challenging.
• Professional vs. amateur tattoos. Professional tattoos are often placed deeper and contain more pigment, which may mean additional treatments.
• Your body does part of the work. The laser breaks tattoo pigment into smaller particles, but your body gradually clears those particles afterward. That’s why treatments need to be appropriately spaced and why more frequent treatments don’t necessarily mean faster removal.
⏳ Tattoo removal can take many months, a year, or sometimes even several years. Multiple sessions are usually necessary, and complete removal cannot be guaranteed.
At Restorative Medspa, we want you to have realistic expectations from the beginning. We’ll evaluate your tattoo, explain the process, and discuss what you may realistically expect before starting treatment.
