💛 It’s Never Been About the Soap. 🧼

Well, okay… maybe a little about the soap. 😉

But when we started Acceptional Things, our dream wasn’t simply to make great products.

It was to create opportunities.

Opportunities to learn new skills. To discover talents. To experience the pride of a job well done. To be part of a team. To contribute. To belong.

Because for adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities, opportunities like these aren’t always easy to find.

Every bottle filled, every label placed, and every bar wrapped represents something bigger than the product itself.

It’s about purpose. It’s about possibility. It’s about being seen for what you CAN do, not what you can’t.

And someday, we hope the work we’re doing at Acceptional Things will help grow something even bigger at Acceptional Acres—a community where home, work, friendship, and belonging come together.

So yes, we make soap. And we’re pretty proud of it!

But it’s never really been about the soap. It’s about the people. 💛

Thank you for seeing the heart behind what we do and go buy some soap!

🌧️ Even the desert needs rain to grow.

Today, the mountains surrounding Acceptional Acres are hidden beneath rain clouds, and the desert is getting a much-needed drink.

It’s a beautiful reminder that growth doesn’t always happen in the sunshine.

Sometimes it happens in the waiting.
Sometimes it happens in the storms.
And sometimes, the most important work is happening where we can’t yet see it.

We’re still in the early chapters of Acceptional Acres, but every day brings us closer to creating a place where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can find home, purpose, friendship, and belonging.

🌱 Something beautiful is growing here.

Some sunsets just feel different when you’re standing on ground filled with possibility. 🌅

Right now, it’s land, open sky, and a dream.

But when we look out across Acceptional Acres, we see so much more.

We see homes.
We see friendships.
We see meaningful work and purpose.
We see families knowing their loved ones have a place to belong.
We see a community where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can build a life, not just have a place to live.

There is a lot of work between this sunset and that future. But tonight, we’re simply grateful to be standing on the land where it can begin.

Where exceptional lives grow. 🌱🏡

Faith inspired. Not faith required.

We it.

After lots of searching, praying, walking properties, asking questions, making connections, and kicking a whole lot of dirt we have secured land for the future home of Acceptional Acres!

This carries the fingerprints of so many people. To everyone who searched with us, encouraged us, shared your expertise, helped secure funding, served on our board, prepared the property, prayed and refused to let us give up:

The land is only the beginning. There is still planning, fundraising and development ahead, but today we’re pausing to how far we’ve come and the people who helped us get here.

We cannot wait to share more pictures, plans and progress as we work toward creating a place where adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities can experience home, purpose, friendship and belonging.

Welcome to the future home of Acceptional Acres….Where Exceptional Lives Grow!

Follow along and help us share the news.

I went to the kickoff luncheon expecting to get updates about this year’s climb.

I left with something much bigger.

I was absolutely inspired by the Arizona Cardinals commitment to individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities and the organizations that serve them.

Hearing about the lives being impacted reminded me why this community matters so deeply to us and reignited our desire at to keep showing up, keep serving, keep creating opportunities, and most importantly, keep loving people well.

The Cardinals got a win on Sunday … but what I saw today reminded me that they’re winning in an even bigger way in the IDD community.

We’re incredibly proud to be participating in the Cardinal Climb again this year, and even more grateful to be part of a community that believes every person deserves the opportunity to belong, contribute, and thrive.

Now it’s time to CLIMB! Support our team here https://cardinalsclimb.com/participants/4897

Lynn grew up around farms in Iowa with his family. His father passed away when he was young. When Lynn was in his 20s, his mother was no longer able to care for him because his aggression became too much for her to handle on her own.

He was moved into a facility in Story County, Iowa. He continued to display some aggressive behaviors that were very challenging, and the facility was unable to care for him the way that he needed.

In 1995, he was sent to Balance Autism, in Pleasant Hill, Iowa. When founded as a non-profit 501(c)3 organization in 1994, it was named The Homestead because its earliest program focused on a working farm where adults with autism could live and work, raising fruits and vegetables.

Lynn loved being part of the vocational program on the farm for many years.

Now in his 70s, he has “retired” from the program.

He transferred from campus based living (the farm) which was more intensive care, to a home and community based living situation (group home) which is less restrictive for him.

Lynn is verbal, but it’s mainly one or two-word phrases. He will also point or lead staff to what he wants.

He needs help with hygiene tasks, and other aspects of daily living.

He has 24/7 staff in his home and he goes grocery shopping once a week, they help him with cooking skills, and chores like emptying the dishwasher.

He decreased his aggression to virtually nothing. Staff members say he is very laid back, easy-going and friendly.
