We were so honored to represent Cayenne Wellness Center at the 2nd Annual Black SoCal Medical Student Conference earlier this month!

Our team thoroughly enjoyed being part of such an important conversation during the Sickle Cell Advocacy Panel. Events like these are vital for building a more equitable healthcare system, fostering representation, and preparing future physicians to truly listen to and advocate for their patients.

Sharing our experiences and advocating for compassionate medicine alongside the next generation of doctors was truly inspiring. Thank you to the conference organizers for having us and for creating such a powerful space.

At the 2026 Sickle Cell Disease Educational Summit, our attendees experienced the incredible power of restorative self-care through sound healing. Immersing the mind and body in therapeutic frequencies using various calming instruments offers a restorative practice that helps release tension, ease stress, and ground the nervous system. For our warriors and community, taking time to pause, breathe, and reset is a vital part of holistic well-being. 🎶💛

Doctor to Doctor: A Warrior in White: Patient and Practitioner"

This session was truly extraordinary. Listening to doctors who are warriors themselves, living firsthand with sickle cell disease, offered a level of insight and connection that is rare and powerful.

These incredible practitioners shared what it is like to navigate a field where they, too, have experienced feeling unheard, learning not only how to fiercely advocate for themselves, but how to channel that strength to advocate for other patients. Their personal stories of perseverance, triumph, strength, and resilience, from their journey as medical students to becoming doctors while managing sickle cell, served as a deeply inspiring reminder that you are fully capable of achieving your goals.

We were honored to be joined in person by Dr. Cage Johnson, Dr. Oladipo Cole, and Dr. Lewis Thomas, who shared their wisdom and lived experiences with us. 💙❤️

Meet Jason Gamez, Advocacy and Community Engagement Manager

Jason leads statewide outreach, coalition-building, and advocacy for California’s sickle cell community at Cayenne Wellness Center and Children’s Foundation. Rooted in his Salvadoran heritage and lived experience, he brings a bilingual, bicultural perspective and a commitment to ensuring warriors and their families are heard, supported, and never left to advocate alone.
