The State of Being Flexible
Checking in with the changeable state of our physical, emotional, and spiritual being I am amazed. For the way I had understood how my body could move in yoga poses is now modified. I am practicing with limited ability and yet can still manage a fairly decent sun salutation. That, along with physical therapy is aiding a very slow progress to whatever a new normal may be. With my left leg a centimeter shorter than the right and some pain with limited flexibity in that hip, I am practicing what I taught for years. I am honoring my body. Listening deeply and allowing the breath with my limited movements guide me to a time of silence where sit and feel the peaceful presence of God.
The deepest state though is my husbands journey with brain cancer. I am in awe as I travel along with him through feelings of fear, grief, pain, anger all of it. Yet still, the most amazing thing I have witnessed is a growing acceptance and even deep love in the self examination of life. The realization that we just can't help wasting our time in life with unimportant things, thinking we have all the time in the world. He is sharing this wisdom with me, his family and friends that it is love we must hold to guide all of our days.
We are grateful to our special friends and family who have boosted our spirits, shopped, cooked, provided extraordinary gifts that help us in body, mind, and spirit. Joe has now entered the Hospice phase and so we spend our days enjoying now, our favorite time of year. It seems fitting that in the waning of life, we can watch the green of summer burst into a final show of beautiful life. Deep peace comes in the knowing that what seems to wither and die returns again in new life in its time.
For now there are still no yoga classes. I am providing limited Gestalt Pastoral Care Session online.
Blessings of Shalom, Sue
