The Attuned Shift The Attuned Shift is here for everyone:
To love being a human. To accept themselves. To never apologize for existing. To live freely. I'm always talking shiFts.

To disrupt anything that gets in the way of that.

Your amygdala doesn't care whether a relationship is good for you.

It pays attention to what it recognizes.

If inconsistency, criticism, emotional distance, or having to work for connection were familiar...

your nervous system learned those patterns through association.

So when you encounter something similar later, your body can respond to it before your conscious mind has decided what it thinks.

That's part of why you can logically recognize that a relationship isn't working for you...

and still feel incredibly drawn to it.

**Familiar doesn't mean healthy.
It means your nervous system recognizes the pattern.**

People pleasing isn't your personality.
It's a stress response.
The fawn response says:
I need to accommodate you to maintain connection.
Or:
I need to accommodate you to prevent harm.
And harm doesn't have to mean physical danger.
Rejection.
Criticism.
Withdrawal of love.
Disrupted connection.
Sometimes "being too nice" is your nervous system trying to keep you feeling connected and safe in your relationships.

"I don't people please."
But I'd ask:
Do you feel guilty when you say no?
Do you over-accommodate?
Are your needs consistently on the back burner?
Do you struggle to assert your preferences?
People pleasing (the fawn stress response) isn't always obvious.
Sometimes it simply looks like making yourself uncomfortable...
so someone else doesn't have to be.

Sometimes guilt doesn't mean you're doing something wrong.

It means you're doing something **different**.

If saying no once threatened connection...

your nervous system may produce guilt when you set a perfectly reasonable boundary now.

We tend to interpret the feeling as:

*"Maybe I shouldn't do this."*

But the feeling may actually mean:

**My nervous system hasn't learned yet that I can do this and still be okay.**

This is where change starts.

You say no.

The guilt comes.

But instead of immediately changing your answer, apologizing, overexplaining, or trying to make the other person okay...

you allow yourself to experience the discomfort.

And then something important happens:

**The thing your nervous system was preparing for doesn't happen.**

You survive the guilt.

You tolerate someone's disappointment.

You discover that discomfort doesn't automatically mean danger.

Each experience gives your nervous system new information that begins to challenge the old, deeply learned belief:

*"I have to accommodate people to stay connected."*

That's how these patterns begin to change.

Not because you convinced yourself with better thoughts...

but because your nervous system is finally **experiencing something different.**

Feeling pushed into yes? You don’t have to stay there. Here are three short scripts + body cues to help you pause, breathe, and hold your ground — without shame. 1) Family: Hand to chest, slow exhale. “I can’t take that on right now.” 2) Work: Tight jaw, ground feet. “I need time to check my schedule and get back to you.” 3) Partner: Tight throat, soften shoulders. “I want to be honest — that doesn’t work for me.” Try them at your next test. You get to choose safety and care. Link: https://wix.to/MiRxVub

Feeling like you’re walking on eggshells in relationships? You’re not failing — your nervous system is reacting. Try this quick somatic practice: grounding breath + body scan. Breathe 4 counts in, 6 counts out. Notice where tension sits. Soften your jaw. Sink into your feet. Repeat until the urge to fawn eases. Over time this builds clearer boundaries and less panic when triggers hit. Want support practicing this in person? I offer consultations in Benicia and nearby Solano County. Feeling your chest tighten when a text pops or a conversation goes sideways? You can shift that in the moment. Try this quick somatic toolkit: 1) Paced breathing: inhale 4, hold 1, exhale 6. Do this three times to downshift your nervous system. 2) Orient to your environment: name five things you see, four you can touch, three you hear. Grounding brings safety. 3) Progressive tension-release: tense shoulders, hold 3 sec, release slowly. Repeat once. These steps calm physiological reactivity so you don’t get pulled into old relationship loops. I’m Simone, I specialize in somatic methods for women navigating relational stress in Solano County, Benicia, Fairfield, and Los Angeles. If you want a short consultation to tailor these tools to your patterns, I’m here. Book a consult: https://wix.to/YpFJMlc
