Diet culture often tells us that feeling better starts with cutting things out, such as food, habits, or even parts of ourselves. But real well-being comes from adding things IN - things that bring joy, connection, and balance into your life.

Whether it’s with yourself, nature, or the people around you, meaningful connection has been shown to support mental and emotional health. Something as simple as calling a friend, writing a letter, or stepping outside for fresh air can make a difference.

What will you do today to bring a little MORE of something into your life?

It’s important to recognize that chronic conditions, including illnesses like endometriosis, are influenced by a variety of factors, including genetics, environmental triggers, stress, and more.

The belief that you are at fault for your illness because of what you eat or how you take care of your body can be incredibly damaging.

It’s crucial to release the burden of self-blame and focus on a balanced approach to healing, where seeking professional care, practicing self-compassion, and addressing all aspects of health - physical, mental, and emotional - play an essential role in managing and living with chronic illness.

A clinician once described one of the hardest parts of ED-GI work this way:
“I gather information but hit a roadblock when it’s time to provide interventions.”

You can know your client’s symptoms, ED history, diagnoses, dietary intake, labs, and previous testing. And STILL find yourself thinking, “What do I do now? What should I prioritize?”

Today, October 15, Lauren Dear and I are taking you inside our own decision-making process.

Through two complex ED-GI cases, we’ll show you how we move from:
Information → Assessment → Priorities → Action

A nutrition intervention can make sense through a GI lens and still create unintended problems through an eating disorder lens.

Before recommending additional dietary restriction, consider:

→ What is the goal of the restriction?
→ What evidence do we have that this particular change is needed?
→ How restrictive is the client's intake already?
→ How might this affect food fears, rigidity or ED behaviours?
→ Is there another way to address the concern?

This doesn't mean ignoring legitimate digestive symptoms. It means considering both sides of the clinical picture before deciding what comes next.

Patients with digestive disorders and eating disorders benefit most when treated by a cohesive, multidisciplinary team.

Each team member, from the dietitian to the mental health professional, plays a vital role in providing comprehensive care that addresses both physical and mental health.

We see the difference in results with clients when we work with their entire team… is that something you see making a difference for your clients too?

Have you ever felt like your gut symptoms and eating struggles were connected? You’re not imagining it.

IBS and eating disorders often go hand in hand, and the emotional and physical toll is real.

In my article “The Complex Ways Eating Disorders and Digestive Disorders Intersect”, I explore how IBS and EDs often show up together, and why healing isn’t as simple as just changing your diet.

Pain, bloating, restriction, anxiety, and confusion about food often feed into each other. But with the right support, things can improve.

📖 Read the full article for insights, research, and gentle tools that can help.

One of the reasons I’m excited to teach this workshop with Lauren Dear is that we don’t necessarily notice the same thing first or even identify the same treatment priorities.

Give us the same client information, and I may immediately have questions related to the eating disorder history or restriction.

Lauren may notice something from her digestive health lens that leads her somewhere else.

Neither perspective is wrong - they highlight the complexity of ED-GI care.
On October 15, we're sharing our clinical process and taking you through two cases from start to “finish.”

You’ll see:

→ what catches our attention
→ what additional questions we ask
→ what information changes our direction
→ what we prioritize and why
→ interventions we consider
→ potential pitfalls we're watching for
→ alternative paths we might take
→ what happened with the client

Because sometimes the question isn't simply, “What intervention treats this symptom?”

It's “What does this particular client need from me next?”

Join us October 15.
