Partnerships with trusted community organizations are critical to expanding access to care and reaching people where they are.

That’s why UPMC is grateful for our longstanding relationship with Paxton Ministries, an organization that provides affordable housing and supportive services for adults in need. In addition to sponsoring Paxton’s 45th anniversary celebration, the UPMC Pinnacle Foundation has provided a full-time RN at Paxton Home for the past decade, bringing basic health care directly to residents who might otherwise rely on the emergency department for their medical needs.

We’re thankful for leaders like Theresa Sellers, director of community health initiatives, UPMC, and our community partners who are working to build healthier communities across Central Pennsylvania.

Our UPMC Magee-Womens Breastfeeding Support Group got into the Halloween spirit this week!

This group is a for new and expecting parents to connect, share experiences, ask questions, and support one another through their feeding journeys, with guidance from a lactation consultant.

Drop-ins are always welcome, and no registration is required.

Honoring a legacy of leadership, service, and commitment to healthcare.

McNees has partnered with UPMC Pinnacle Foundation to establish the Mark Van Blargan Valedictorian and Salutatorian Scholarship Awards, honoring our late colleague and healthcare practice chair, Mark Van Blargan.

Through a $100,000 pledge, the scholarship endowment will recognize and support the top two students in each class at UPMC Shadyside School of Nursing at UPMC Harrisburg, helping invest in the next generation of nurses in central Pennsylvania.

Congratulations to Talissa Kidd and Kylee Hoffman, the first scholarship recipients, who were recognized as the school's valedictorian and salutatorian, respectively, in August!

Mark's contributions to McNees and the broader healthcare community continue to have a lasting impact. Through these scholarships, we are proud to carry forward his legacy of service while supporting the future of nursing and patient care.

When it comes to stroke, every minute counts. World Stroke Day is Oct. 29, and the American Stroke Association urges all Americans to know the signs and symptoms of stroke, and what to do in case a loved one is having a stroke.

Most Americans don't know the BE FAST warning signs of stroke:
⚖️ Balance loss
👁️ Eye and vision changes
👤 Face drooping
🫳🏽 Arm weakness
🗣️ Speech difficulty

It's important to take quick action and call 911 if you think someone near you may be having a stroke.

Meet Dr. Huilan Tang! 👋

A family medicine doctor at UPMC Primary Care, Lower Paxton Family Care, Dr. Tang says building meaningful, long-term relationships with her patients is one of the most rewarding parts of her work.

“My goal is to help each patient feel heard, understood, and confident in their health care,” she said.

With clinical interests in chronic disease management, geriatrics, and obesity management, Dr. Tang focuses on caring for the whole person and helping patients build healthy habits for lifelong wellness.

“I'm passionate about empowering patients through education, preventive care, and compassionate support throughout every stage of life,” she said.

Dr. Tang provides comprehensive outpatient care, from routine physicals and preventive health screenings to the diagnosis and treatment of acute and chronic conditions.

Outside the office, you’ll find her spending time with family, exploring new places, or discovering great food. Her favorite way to start the day? A simple breakfast and conversation with her family.
