🐾JAZZY’S PAW WASN’T GETTING BETTER… SO WE LOOKED AT THE WHOLE BODY.

Meet Jazzy. ❤️🐶

Her sore foot had already received appropriate veterinary care—but despite the treatment, she was still struggling.

That’s where animal chiropractic care became part of the conversation.

Instead of simply asking, “What’s wrong with the foot?” we asked:

👉 How is Jazzy walking?
👉 Is she shifting weight away from the sore side?
👉 Are other joints compensating?
👉 Could altered movement be placing additional stress on the rest of her body?

🦝 CAN CHIROPRACTIC HELP JIMOTHY?

We’ve been getting A LOT of questions about whether animal chiropractic could help Jimothy, the famous short-spined raccoon.

And honestly? Maybe. But maybe NOT.

Jimothy’s unusual appearance is associated with short spine syndrome, a rare condition where the spine appears dramatically shortened and the vertebral anatomy can be highly atypical.

That creates a HUGE clinical question:

👉 What bones and joints does he actually have?
👉 Which structures are normal?
👉 Which are malformed or fused?
👉 What can safely move—and what absolutely should NOT be moved?

Before anyone even considers an adjustment, we would need diagnostic imaging and a detailed discussion with his veterinarians to understand his unique anatomy.

Because chiropractic isn't about blindly “cracking” something that looks unusual.

Sometimes the most important adjustment is knowing when NOT to adjust.

And there’s another question that matters even more:

🦝 Does Jimothy actually need treatment?

If this wild little guy is eating, moving, climbing, grooming, interacting with his environment, and otherwise taking care of himself—with no obvious signs of pain or dysfunction—why would we intervene simply because he looks different?

Being anatomically unusual doesn't automatically mean being unhealthy.

So while animal chiropractic might have a role someday, the first priority would be understanding Jimothy’s anatomy, consulting the veterinary team, and determining whether there is actually a problem that needs intervention.

🔥YOUR “BAD POSTURE” MAY NOT BE A POSTURE PROBLEM.

Forward head. Rounded shoulders. Tight chest. Weak upper back.

Then below the waist:

Anterior pelvic tilt. Tight hip flexors. Weak glutes. Low-back tension.

Sound familiar?

This is where Upper Crossed Syndrome + Lower Crossed Syndrome can become a problem.

Your body doesn't exist in separate pieces. When certain muscles become overactive and others become inhibited, your posture and movement patterns can change from the neck → shoulders → spine → pelvis → hips.

And here's the part most people miss:

👉 Stretching one tight muscle isn't always enough.

Effective care may involve addressing the entire movement pattern—mobility, muscle balance, motor control, joint mechanics, strengthening, and the habits that created the problem in the first place.

🧠 Think of it this way:

Upper Crossed Pattern

PART 3: Sitting is becoming the new smoking... for your spine.

If you spend 6–10 hours a day sitting at a desk, driving, or scrolling your phone, your body is adapting—and not in a good way.

Over time, prolonged sitting can contribute to Lower Crossed Syndrome, a common muscle imbalance where:
❌ Hip flexors become tight.
❌ Lower back muscles become overactive.
❌ Glutes and deep core muscles become weak.
❌ The pelvis tilts forward, placing extra stress on the lumbar spine.

Now add Upper Crossed Syndrome into the mix:
❌ Rounded shoulders
❌ Forward head posture
❌ Tight chest muscles
❌ Weak upper back and neck stabilizers

Together, these patterns create what many clinicians refer to as Double Cross Syndrome—a full-body postural imbalance.

So where does sciatica come in?

While not every case of sciatica is caused by postural dysfunction, prolonged sitting and muscle imbalance can increase stress on the lumbar spine and surrounding tissues. Over time, this may contribute to increased pressure on the intervertebral discs, reduced hip mobility, irritation of the sciatic nerve, or compression of nearby nerve roots in susceptible individuals.

Symptoms may include:
⚡ Pain shooting into the buttock or leg
⚡ Tingling, numbness or burning sensations
⚡ Weakness
⚡ Stiffness after sitting
⚡ Low back pain that improves when you finally get moving
