FACT: Head lice cannot jump or fly. 🚫🪽
Head lice don’t have wings, and their legs aren’t built for jumping. They crawl from place to place.
So how do they spread?
👉 Mostly through direct head-to-head c ontact — think kids hugging, cuddling, taking selfies, roughhousing, or putting their heads together while playing.
That’s also why finding lice doesn’t mean someone is “dirty” or that their house isn’t clean. Lice are looking for a human scalp, not a messy home.

Finding nits doesn’t automatically mean you still have an active case of head lice. 👀
Here’s the deal:
🥚 Nits are glued to the hair shaft — they don’t brush, shake, or wash off easily.
📏 Location matters. Newly laid viable eggs are usually found very close to the scalp, where it’s warm enough for them to develop.
🔍 Nits farther down the hair shaft may be old, empty, or no longer viable — especially after treatment.
And nope… dandruff doesn’t fight back when you try to flick it off. 😆 If it’s firmly cemented to one side of a hair strand, take a closer look.

Head lice have absolutely NOTHING to do with how clean your hair or home is.

Lice are equal-opportunity freeloaders. 😆

🐴 MYTH: Human head lice can spread to horses and infest their manes.
❌ FALSE!
This one sounds believable because horses can get lice — even in their manes. But they aren't the same lice that infest people.
🪮 Human head lice are species-specific. They are adapted to living on humans and cannot establish an infestation on horses.
🐴 Horses have their own species of lice, just like dogs, cats and other animals do. Equine lice can live in a horse's mane, tail and coat — but human head lice cannot.
And it works both ways: your horse isn't going to give your family head lice either. 🙌
So if your child comes home with head lice, don't blame the pony. 😂🐴
