The soft-tissue surgical robotics monopoly is officially over, giving way to a mature four-titan ecosystem featuring Intuitive, J&J, Medtronic, and Stryker. Rather than competing on incremental hardware features, these MedTech powers are carving up the market by venue and architecture.
This shift has been driven by major 2026 milestones: J&J securing FDA clearance for its zero-footprint, table-integrated Ottava system, and Stryker entering the soft-tissue game via a $400M alliance with CMR Surgical to scale the small-footprint Versius platform in outpatient spaces and ASCs.
The legacy strategy of selling a single, multi-million-dollar multi-port console to every central OR is officially obsolete. Growth now belongs to platforms built for specific clinical workflows, physical constraints, and sterile processing realities.
