You check an estimated A1C in your glucose log, then see a different number on a lab result. It can be confusing—but the two numbers are made in different ways.
Diabetes Care explains that estimated A1C starts with your average measured glucose and converts that average into an estimate using a formula developed from data from groups of people. A lab A1C is a blood test that measures glucose attached to hemoglobin and reflects average glucose over about three months, according to the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases, part of NIH.
That difference matters: an estimate may not match a lab result exactly. Glucobyte lets you record glucose and view an Estimated A1C, so you can bring your questions and records to your healthcare team.
Would you like to log your lab A1C in Glucobyte? Let us know and we can add this feature in a future update.
