5 innocent habits that could be ruining your health. 👩🏽⚕️
These aren't bad habits. They look like good ones. That's exactly what makes them worth talking about.
1. ☕ Drinking coffee before eating.
Coffee on an empty stomach spikes cortisol, which is already at its natural peak in the morning. Doing this daily keeps cortisol elevated, disrupts blood sugar regulation, and suppresses appetite at exactly the time your body needs fuel. The result? Brain fog, energy crashes, and increased fat storage later in the day.
2. 🏃🏽♀️ Doing intense cardio every day.
Daily high-intensity exercise without adequate recovery raises cortisol, increases oxidative stress, and can suppress ovulation in women with already-depleted adrenal reserves.
3. 💊 Taking supplements without testing first.
Supplementing without knowing your actual levels is at best expensive and at worst counterproductive. Too much iron when you don't need it. Vitamin D without testing your baseline. Test first. Supplement to your specific gaps.
4. 🥗 Eating salad for every meal.
Raw vegetables are nutritious. They are also hard to digest, particularly for women with low stomach acid or gut dysbiosis. A diet built entirely around raw, cold, low-calorie foods can leave you under-eating, under-fuelled, and nutrient-deficient.
5. 🌙 Going to bed late to wind down.
Scrolling, watching TV, or working late to decompress after a long day feels like self-care. But light exposure and mental stimulation after 10pm disrupts melatonin production, delays your circadian rhythm, and reduces the quality of the deep sleep your body needs to regulate cortisol, growth hormone, and immune function.
The body is always communicating. Sometimes the things we think are helping are the things worth looking at first. 🤍
