Why can a child struggle to fall asleep at bedtime and then be asleep ten minutes into a car ride?
We rock babies to sleep. Children nod off in strollers and cars. Adults can get drowsy on trains or during long rides. It happens so often that we rarely stop to wonder why.
Tomorrow, host Mandy Doman and guest expert Alex Doman will explore that question in Sound Asleep: Why Bedtime Is Only Part of the Story.
The vestibular system helps us sense movement, balance, and where we are in space. It is also connected with alertness and arousal, which may help explain why different kinds of movement can affect how awake or sleepy we feel.
Alex will also share the earlier NASA funded research into movement, alertness, and sleep that eventually contributed to the development of Sleep Genius, which he cofounded.
