A recollection needs an explanation.
A laboratory-requested recollection can be frustrating for a patient. A clear explanation should address the reason you are authorized to share and the practical next step.
Confirm the message: establish what the laboratory or responsible team has determined before contacting the patient. Use plain language: explain that another specimen is needed without blaming a person or inventing a cause. Clarify arrangements: identify who will coordinate the new appointment and any confirmed preparation requirements.
Keep interpretation separate: direct questions about diagnosis or results to the appropriate healthcare professional. Check understanding: invite the patient to explain the next step or ask a question.
An example opening is, “The laboratory has requested another sample. Let me explain the confirmed arrangements.” Do not imply that a recollection automatically means an abnormal result.
