41 Women recruited to the study were divided into two groups, one Pilates group and one control group.
The control group did nothing, and the subjects in the Pilates group were evaluated for bone mineral density at the lumbar region.
Physical performance level was measured and pain intensity level was scored for assessing quality of life.
Bone mineral density values increased in the Pilates group while bone mineral density decreased in the control group.
Physical performance test results showed significant increases in the Pilates group where there was no changes in the control group.
Pain intensity level in the Pilates group was significantly decreased after the exercise while it was unchanged in the control group.
There were significant increases in all parameters of quality of life in the Pilates group.
Conversely, some parameters of quality of life showed decreases in the control group.
